OC for severe loss?

| Today was Round Three in looking for an audiologist and still no
success.
I have severe hearing loss in both ears, a very limited budget and
absolutely cannot tolerate the sensation of having anything in my ear
canal.
Today's audiologist was recommended with the promise that there were
OC aids available for my problem however from what I could see, all he
had for sale were Phonak supposedly OC aids but still with a mushroom
thingie that closed the canal and recommended for mild to moderate
loss. He recommended a BAHA which we cannot afford.
Does anyone know if there is a true open canal aid available for
severe hearing loss?

severe hearing loss?

| It's possible some of the surgical options (still very new) may address this
area but at this point no hearing aid with an open ear will work for a
severe loss...GG

No open ear products available for severe hearing losses, feedback is still
the problem. It may happen one day, but still some time off.
Comfort in the canal is a common problem when fitting severe hearing
losses.New technology in mould manufacturing(laser moulds etc )can help, but
these still don't get rid of TMJ , occlusion and other common problems.
Soft moulds can help with comfort.

audiologist's practice is with the hard-of-hearing, I feel that he/she
should be able to communicate with all clients. I haven't found one
yet who is equipped for me to hear them speaking. Thank goodness for
this group and all you helpful people. I know that I'm getting
completely unprejudiced input here.
It's impossible for me to wear the traditional BTE or ITE so the
latest plan is to try out a pair of open ear aids which I may be able
to wear. While I realize that they'll not go far in improving my
hearing, any improvement would be a help.

If you have severe loss I can't imagine any OC aid that would work with you.
At present as others are saying it is not possible to get high amplification
and not get feedback. OC are suitable for only for those with less severe
losses.
A few years ago someone fitted me with ITE type that were huge. They filled
the whole ear cavity and I still had problems with feedback.
What you probably need to do is try to solve your problem of not being able
to have anything in your ear.
