Second Pair of H. Aids

| My Canta 770's are very sensitive to moisture, and fail often in the
middle of the day when I'm away from home, so I can't dry them out in a
fast and convenient manner. With out my aids I am not hard of hearing,
I am deaf. I live in the humidity capital of the country.......S. Fl.
Is it common at all for people to have a second pair of h.aids for
emergencies? What do you do if you have your aid(s) out for repair for
a week? What would you recommend for a "cheap" second pair.

Sorry to hear about your problem with the Canta 770s. If I paid as
much as they cost I'd be very annoyed with them failing like that.
Whatever, I've always carried a spare aid with me, but thanfully not
often needed it. What I bought for a spare was the aid that is
advertised in AARP magazine....sorry I can't remember the name of it,
and we no longer get the magazine. I recall that it cost about $29 or
$39....that was 10 or so years ago, but I think it's still about that
price.
Anyway, it has served me very well. It's not as good as a regular aid,
of course, but much better than nothing. In fact I'd say it's not bad
at all. No AGC, but it does have a telecoil, and a volume control, and
after bering carried around in my purse daily for ten years or so, it
still works fine.
AmericaHears makes a BTE for about $600, and I'm sure it's a lot
better than my cheapie spare.

Sounds like a good use for Songbirds. I think they run about $130-140 a
pair. Not a sophisticated HA, but better than nothing in an emergency. I've
seen them in drugstores as well as online.
We live most of the year in the same area, S.Fl, including a couple of the
high humidity months, but have never experienced that problem. Been using a
pair of Canta 7 ITEs for the last 4 years.
I wonder, if you're driving around in an air conditioned car when you're
away from home, if hanging the aids, battery door open, in front of an AC
vent would dry them enough so you could use them?

| Hearing Help Express has some ITEs for about $300 each but they have about
47db gain ... enough for up to moderate hearing loss. They also have some
more powerful BTEs for about the same price. You might also look at the
Audium2 ... an assistive hearing device with enough gain to help up to
about 120 db. It works very well ... a cigarette sized package that fits
in your pocket ... stereo microphones ... excellent sound ,,, and a
three-band equalizer to set to taste. It's about $150 now and will work
for both ears. Good hearing to you.

Can you explain exactly how one would use this device?
Thanks,

| richard48 got a pocket talker type amp, most likely much better, and about
ear phones wrote:

headphones or ear-buds to go with them?"
Now you've done it. There will be thirty posts. Some people here have a lot
of experiance and opinion about ear phones.
