I have take Effexor XR at different times in my life, usually taken the
75 mg dose once a day. I have a new doctor who also has prescribed to
me 75 mg a day, but by taking 2 37.5 mg pills a day. Is this unusual?
Should I take both in the morning or at different times during the day?

The whole point behind an extended release formulation is that the
medication is released gradually, over many hours. So it shouldn't
matter much when you take it. You can experiment with two at bed time
for a few days, then two at breakfast for a few days, and one at
breakfast and bedtime to see if you notice any difference, but I
wouldn't expect much difference.

I'm on efexor too and have always split the dose between morning and
night even when on a low dose. Seeing as you can get 75mg pills and
your doc is giving youy 37.5mg pills that would suggest to me that you
should take them at different times otherwise he would have gave you
75mg in one pill.
Double check next time you see your doc.
Word of warning - efexor tastes DISGUSTING so try and get it down first
time. I learned that the hard way.

The XR is in capsules, so there is no taste. Sounds as though you take
the regular, rather than XR?

Maybe..........not sure. I asked if it came in capsules cos of being
sick but they said no? What does XR stand for? Is there a difference in
speed of release or half life?
Capsules are def. easier to swallow.

Yes -- the XR is eXtended Release, and it allows once daily dosing of
the Effexor.
