Author I have low iron levels

I just found out today I have low iron levels. It was first discovered
a year ago when I went to an endocrinologist who specializes in
androgen (testosterone) therapy at a university teaching hospital. He
ran some basic bloodwork and other tests on me to rule things out. One
thing he checked was my iron levels...too high iron can cause
testosterone deficiency he explained.

Well, my iron levels came back actually low and he told me in a letter
to get it followed up with my internal med doctor. I told my Internal
med doctor about it and told him id been giving a lot of blood in the
past half year and blamed it on that. I recently asked him to retest me
for iron and sure enough, it came back low a second time.

It looks like my iron levels are taking a hit from my low testosterone
levels. It was explained to me that low testosterone levels in men
tends to cause mineral loss and the low iron could be an early sign of
that.

I talked to my doctor's nurse and asked her if this low iron thing
could have anything to do with my fading ability to work out regular
like I have always been able to do. I explained to her that for the
past two years or so, everytime I go to the gym or outside to work out
and push it very hard, I break down and get sick...colds, bronchitis,
sinus probs, etc. Just like my system generally breaks down and I have
to back off on the exercise.

This problem has caused me to become sedentary in the last several
years, which I intensely dislike.

The nurse told me the low iron levels is probably lowering my immune
system and that could definitely be affecting me getting sick easily.

So now I have to take something called "NUIRON" which is OTC daily...at
150 mg strength. Maybe in a month or so it will be built back up and I
can start working out regularly again...damn I hope so.

This is actually good news cause it explains things...

You need minerals instead of ECT and psychotoxic drugs?

Who could have predicted that?

me, having low iron when youre a 35 year old man is abnormal. Women
have low iron commonly, but not men.

deficiencies.

I hear ya...I'd get it checked further. But, I got hypothyroidism when I was
40. Usually women get it. Unfortunately, mine was hereditary from my mother.

you're so smart. I take AD's and my blood levels are fine. I get them

I hardly eat any junk food. Thats one of your many delusions, that
psych drugs give you vitamin and mineral deficiencies. The only
deficiency YOU have is a clozapine deficiency. Thats the "vitamin" you
should be on ALL the time!

Yeah...hypothyroidism is another "female" endocrine illnes. Female
meaning mostly women get it. Same thing with iron deficiency...its very
common in women but not very common with men.

My body is falling apart...I will probably be dead in ten more years
the way Im going.

I always said UNLESS you have a vitamin/mineral deficiency thats
measurable on blood tests given by a Medical Doctor.

And the iron supplement isnt gonna get rid of my depression dumbass.

I thought it well established that NOTHING was going to get rid of
your "depression"

Wouldnt it be a tragedy if you had to stop hanging around in internet
support groups abusing people at your parents expense?

To be able to make that argument you will have had to have some
experence
with making that argument, Eric. With your various pro Nazi postings
over
the years such a belief would be consistant with other views you have
expressed, such as your recent tirade blaming the Jews for everything.

You fail to see that no matter that you have survived since 1997
freeloading off your parents your experences do not always transfer to
other folks, in fact you usualy attack people who disagree with you.
Different people react differently then you and deserve respect not
derision no matter how they differ from you.

That's not what you said. I quoted what you said (spelling mistakes included). Do
you want the google link?

Are you arguing that the only way vitamin supps can possible help is if a doctor
declares you deficient, based on bloodwork? You are an idiot. What did Linus Pauling
win one of his two Nobel Prizes for?

I don't give a XXXX if the iron supplements get rid of your depression, or not. Even
if they do, you'll still be a loud-mouthed idiot. A constipated loud-mouthed idiot,
probably.

Larry,

You may have just solved my chronic scatological disorder --
iron! I don't eat very much meat AT ALL - i may be anemic -
hey, thanks.

BTW, for Lucida - immodium went down smooothly today, and
no problem, but some more days to check it out - and IRON!

Yes, thats what I believe and have always believed. I have always said
on here that RARELY, vitamin or mineral deficiency can cause or
exacerbate depression. For example you can google me and find where I
tell people to get their B vitamin levels checked, especially folate
and B-6. But guess what? B vitamin deficiencies are rare in our modern,
Western society where foods are fortified with vitamins and minerals!

In my case, I have obviously developed a low iron problem (anemia) most
likely secondary to my hypogonadism (low testosterone). When a man has
low testosterone, he begins losing mineral content and the
endocrinologist I consulted with told me this was so and specifically
told me the low iron count was directly related to the hypogonadism.

Lastly, you think Im going to take Linus Pauling's advice and take 3 or
4 thousand mgs of vitamin C a day? And have the shits everyday for the
rest of my life? And have the acidity tear up my stomach and end up
with an ulcer?
LOL You gotta be kidding.

Actually, I could say the same about you. Youre the know it all. You

herbs and stupid shit for no good reason, with no medical tests to back

And here is even better knews, Squiggles: Iron supplements are
constipating! (Yes, that really was meant as good news in your case,
given your, um, "movement" issues.)

That's interesting. Anemia isn't a common male disorder, but it could
explain a lot. And anemia can *really* sap your energy. I hope this
helps you. Just watch out for constipation; iron supplements can have
that effect.

So take those pills, and soon they'll be calling you "Iron Man" at the
gym! (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

That's not the mechanism at all. Hypogonadism can cause secondary normocytic anemia
through suppression of erythropoietin release. You can have normal iron intake and
still have anemia, if you have a chronic endocrine disturbance.

The mineral loss is mediated via secondary parathyroid disturbance, and leads to
osteopenia, if not frank osteoporosis, via loss of calcium and magnesium. That does
not apply to iron. Anemia secondary to hypogonadism is not an iron balance disorder.
It's an iron utilization disorder.

> Lastly, you think Im going to take Linus Pauling's advice and take 3 or
> 4 thousand mgs of vitamin C a day? And have the shits everyday for the

That's not what would happen, Eric. And, the amount to avoid frank deficiency
(called scurvy), which would be found by a medical doctor doing blood tests (your
model), is 90 mg/day. That's about 3% of that larger amount. What do you think
happens with all that extra vitamin?

> And have the acidity tear up my stomach and end up
> with an ulcer?

Ascorbic acid is a weak organic acid, which is 100's of times weaker than the HCl
secreted by your stomach. All you have to do is take an ascorbate salt, and you
bypass the risk altogether. Ever heard of buffered vitamin C? Solid tablets of plain
ascorbic acid taken on an empty stomach can cause sores in the wall of the stomach,
but not because it's an acid. It's because of the high local concentration of
ascorbate, which triggers HCl release. It's a signalling compound in the stomach,
part of a complex feed-back regulatory loop.

Vitamin C has been used as a *treatment* for ulcers, Eric. By the way, iron uptake
requires vitamin C.

Clearly, neither physiology nor chemistry are things you much understand.

> Actually, I could say the same about you. Youre the know it all. You

I only talk about what I know about, Eric. Unlike you.
