Just browsing and came across this - i would hate to be
a doctor making decisions for children - either X is true
or it is false -- i've never seen such dispute in "science";

It happens all the time. It's just that it's usually tucked away in
scientific journals and hopefully happens *before* a drug is widely
prescribed.
Dispute isn't considered a bad thing in science, either. When researcher
A proposes something, researchers B and C attempt to prove or disprove
it... and probably get conflicting results. More studies follow,
scientists argue, and when the dust settles, only the truth has survived.
