Author NIH article on ECT
I am Mr. Spock, things do not sound logical

This is an EXCELLENT article about ECT. This paper states that ECT is
the superior treatment for "delusional depression" AKA psychotic
depression. To quote:

"Delusional Depression

ECT is highly effective in the treatment of delusional depression. It
is superior to either antidepressants or neuroleptics used alone and is
at least as effective as the combination of antidepressants and
neuroleptics. ECT is often effective in patients who have previously
failed to respond to medication. The duration of therapeutic effect
beyond the initial acute episode is not clear."
