Prozac Only Antidepressant Recommended For Children

Advice is being turned into action when it comes to protecting children from
adverse effects of antidepressant medications.

The Food and Drug Administration says it is working to get the strongest
warning labels available onto antidepressant prescription bottles. This
follows last week's advisory panel recommendation for so-called black box
warnings.

The only antidepressant approved for pediatric use is Prozac.

Certain antidepressants have been linked to an increased risk for suicide in
adolescent and teenage patients.

The new warning labels will appear on all SSRIs, including Prozac, Zoloft,
Remeron, Paxil, Effexor, Celexa, Wellbutrin, Luvox and Serzone
