ADHD and ADD Drugs and Sudden Death
Posted on September 28, 2006

by Richard Johnson

U.S. health officials said several drugs to treat attention
deficithyperactivity disorder must include new warning information about the
riskof heart problems and psychotic behavior. The drugs include
GlaxoSmithKlinePlc's Dexedrine and Novartis AG's Ritalin, and must include a
warning aboutthe possible risk of sudden death.

The drugs are stimulants that can raise blood pressure and cause
aggressionand mania.

Doctors have expressed concern that new warnings could dampen use of
themedicines, but critics say many of the prescriptions are unnecessary
andthat the drugs are over used.

Canadian health authorities are following a similar path
regardingmedications for ADHD.

The "nanny mentality" strikes again. Everyone knows what's good for
you. How should I deal with psychotic people who are not on stimulants?

I had a former shrink-a-dink and ADD-EXPERT who told me that I was
inflexible, that I acted in an entitled manner, that I was unable to
trust people, that my mother's death should have emancipated me because
there was no longer any barrier; that I was trapped in the childhood
stream. ...

A couple of weeks after my mom died, he dumped me because he felt
frustrated that he couldn't do anything. No appeal. No
reconsideration. It is all Raving's fault.

Nothing personal, mind you. He was just thinking about himself. .. His
own frustration.

He told my family physician that I poisoned our working relationship by
making it personal.

Raving is useless.

Everyone says it; especially his former kiddie shrink and ADD expert...

No appeal.
Nobody will touch me.
I am sick in the head.

I am psychotic. No surprise there.
