Jo,

I don't know if it will work, but I know the only thing that
hasn't been done is getting the group(s) to completely ignore
the disruptive posters uniformly - and not for a few weeks, but
over the long haul. I know ast can be a great group without the
constant disruption. spp used to be great, too, and the regs
there (myself included) would like to take it back.

It's not easy to do because of the heinous nature of the posts.
I've often found myself upset and trying to defend myself
against the attacks, as have you and others. Self defense is
human nature. But that only seems to make things escalate. I can
only add here that "the truth is the ultimate defense". You know
it, I know it, and it's all in the archives... deep breath...
ignore.

When I and a few others (one person not a Usenet poster, but a
colleague of mine) stepped back and looked at the posts more
objectively, we realized that the posts speak for themselves.
They really are so outrageous and bizarre that their authors
accomplish nothing but self-defamation.

No one can control anyone's posting habits on Usenet, and there
will always be trolls. But I believe a group can, and should,
come together and agree on a consistent way of dealing with
disruptive content. Newcomers will quickly catch on to how the
group handles such events, and maybe that way the group can grow
and thrive again. I hope.

Kali
