| I need your help before I go to the Neuo on Thur. Aug 19.
I realised that I have been missdiognosed for at least 30 years.. In the
90 I was labeled Myoclonic and put on Klonipin. I had no memory of my
childhood untill 2 weeks ago 80 years too late.
Now that I remember my mom telling me I had St.Vitis Dance, which I
didn't comprehend.
Is Klonipn med. for TS?
If not I want to be weened off it. And take it from there.
Thank you for all your help. and bringing my memoty back to me.

Dear Fay,
This must be a real awakening for you - to be realizing and coping
with this after all these years. Klonopin is an anti-anxiety drug,
that can also help with tics somewhat. It can be difficult to wean off
of, and you should only do that slowly and under a doctor's
supervision.
Ps- It's never "too late" to live and learn... Good luck with the
neuro appointment.
Keep us posted.

Klonopin is not usually an effective medication for tics, but for some
people it has helped a bit. Joanne's advice about consulting your
doctor for help if you want to wean off it is important. What is your
daily dosage?
I've seen nothing in any of your messages that would make me believe
that you need any medication for your tics. Perhaps I missed
something in your messages, but if the tics are not causing you
problems, then medicating them would probably cause more problems than
any good it might do.
If your ticcing causes you physical or emotional pain, it might help
to discuss that here. People might have helpful suggestions. But
make sure to tell the neurologist what kind of effect your tics have
on your life. And be certain the neurologist is knowledgable
regarding TS (many aren't) or at least willing to acquire the
knowledge.
Good luck, Fay, and please let us know how your neurologist visit
goes.

I take 0ne clonazpenam 0.5mg. before I retire. I was supposed to take 2
12 hours apart.I asked and was granted to take one
I am very social, play cards, drive, go to meetings ETC. I stopped
driving 2 weeks ago at 89.
I am a vegetarian and very healthy, that helps.
I seem to let it all out when I am alone.
I now have lots of loud vocal tics. I don't remember doing that until I
reached my 70. Now I know I had it at 9 years when I was transferred to
a special class for 1 year ,then on to Jr. High ( 7 & 8) then made it to
High (9) and then to vocational school.Took up sewing I bet I had ADHD I
wasn't the smartest kid on the block.lol

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder - one of the "ADD's".
I'm sure not driving is a great loss for you....it's an adjustment
period for you in many ways, and I give you LOTS of credit to be
addressing these issues at this stage in your life. Kudos to you!
Unless you are particularly anxious during the day, one .5mg
Clonazepam is not a lot to be taking at night (for most people) and it
can help you get a better quality sleep, relax tense muscles, etc.
For many of us, we tic loudest when alone! That is fairly common. Just
keep in mind that you are still the same person you always
were.....but I'm sure peeling back the layers of the "onion" as it
were and realizing more about yourself is quite an eye-opener for you!
I hope you don't let it disconcert you too much - if it does, you will
find wonderful people here to support you, answer questions, and
listen in general. I'm glad to hear you are healthy...as for the
vegan-ism, I applaud it but boy I like my steak rare! <smile>
By the way, I was wondering where you grew up? Certain areas of this
country and Canada, France, etc knew more about St. Vitus' Dance "back
then" than others did.....in Canada, France, and parts of Maine (near
Greenville, Moosehead area) it was called "The Jumping Frenchman". It
was often mistaken for a chorea.....
Take care,
Jo
