I am a US Navy Vet.
I was on board the USS Illusive MSO-448 from 1987-1988 in the Persian
Gulf we took part in Operation Earnest Will, it was during the Iran
Iraq War. During that time both sides used Chemical and Biological
Weapons. Our area of operations was from the northern gulf to just
north of Bahrain.

I have been slowly developing a Lupus like illness since then; I have
been dealing with it. But the illness is getting much worse; I am not
in search of a cure because I doubt one can be found. However I would
like to know what is causing this. My doctor's tell me I have some
sort of connective tissue disease that they are unable to identify. My
family doctor is only treating the symptoms, but one can only take so
many drugs.

I have spoken with a few of my old shipmates and they too have similar
problems.
Does anyone else have any ideas?

My symptoms include:

No energy
Hair loss
Joint pains
Bones hurt-legs,pelvis,hands,neck,back,jaw,chest bone
Irregular breathing-occasional
Flu like symptoms
Blurred vision-occasional
Depression
Personality changes to very grouchy, 'grumpy'
Extreme Irritability
Loose temper easily
Short term memory loss
Difficulty concentrating
(Many assorted central nervous system diagnosis)-shakes/tremors
Endocrine disruption to pituitary?
Blood pressure problems-border line
Blood sugar problems?
History of kidney stones
( No I am not over weight, I eat very little junk food and almost no
red meats, non-smoker, non-drinker, and I try to exercise when ever I
can.)

talk to your county veteran service officer or contact a service officer at
DAV or VFW. Or you can contact your local VA. Its best to have someone
professional evaluate it.

This does not have to be related to your service there.
However it may have. I think that diseases with the symptoms you describe
are infectious or environmental (toxins) in origin.

It would be interesting to know the figures for such illnesses in Iran/Iraq,
and how they changed during the various wars.

Surely there exist medicines that can arrest it or slowly reverse it.
They are hidden in literature somewhere.
First you need to establish what is the matter with you.

Yes. Beware of taking immune suppressors like corticosteroids.

Ah. There we have strong evidence that indeed it is not a coincidence..
Neither that it is likely to be Lyme.

OK.
Most is "typical Lyme".
Lyme damages all kinds of brain functionality, like the parasympathic
system, the limbic system, the medulla oblongata, the cranial nerves, the
cappilaries feeding the brain etc. It can cause lesions in the brain etc.

This makes me think that you suffer from similar damage that is progressive.

"Depleted" Uranium can't be the cause (blown by the wind), as the US did not
use that at that time (before the first Gulf War?)

There are two popular theories about the cause of Gulf War illness:

- Caused by tainted immunizations (there sometimes are extremely hazardous
chemicals put in immunizations, like a thousand-fold max. dose of a Mercury
salt, as a preservative)

- Caused by very low exposure of certain chemical weapons.

My own theory is that some chemical agents have the ability to fold proteins
in the brain like a prion can (Bovine Spungiform Encephalopathy, Scrapie and
Creuzfelt-Jakov). Which is a progressive disease.

In that case it's a death sentence with no hope and a most terrible death.

I can only say, it's unwise to offer your services to the United States
army.
They do not have your health as a priority or even a slight consideration.
Cannon fodder is what you are, a tool for the corporations to remain in
power and their shareholders get wealthier.

The United States has a long-standing policy of covertly using chemical
weapons themselves, even when their own troops are in the vicinity. This has
been done as late as in the first Gulf war, where the US used VX gas on
Iraqi's near their own troops and they covered it up with: "We have blown up
a chemical weapons factory and we won't make that mistake in the future".

In addition to that, it has been found that DU shells in fact contain
plutonium and enriched uranium in trace amounts due to accidental pollution
with reactor waste. Enough to totally XXXX up a person forever at the
slightest exposure of the dust (lungs/gastric).
