Freaking-What Does all this mean?

| So I'm 39, have been taking prescription heartburn meds, (achiphex the last
few years), and have been good. I never got myself scoped because I was
terrified of it and could pretend because the symptoms were mostly not
there.
I've been a heavy beer drinker for years and am about 40 lbs overweight.
So I had a biopsy on my throat and stomach Monday.
The Dr. did a biopsy because he saw redness, (lines) around the esophagus
and is worried it may be barrett's esophagus. What does this mean?
Does this mean you are definately going to get esophagial cancer?
I have soreness in my throat, tightness under my breastbone and burp a bit.
I also seem to get a decent amount of plaque buildup
He changed me to Nexium twice a day.
So now I wait for the results, I am losing my mind...

Stop the drinking NOW! Completely
And elevate your bed at least 6 inches and preferably

First of all...relax.
Barrett's esophagus is a PRE-cancerous condition. Even if you have
Barrett's, only about 10% of those will begin the actual process toward
cancer of the esophagus. Furthermore, we now have rather simple ways of
eliminating Barrett's esophagus if it DOES develop (look at
http://www.barrx.com/ ) .
If you do have Barrett's esophagus, you need to stop the reflux. Best place
to start is stop the drinking (no, not "cut down", actually stop) and you
need to lose that 40 lbs. That, plus stop smoking and watch your diet and
your reflux condition *might* go away.
