esophagitis without heartburn

| Hi,
I have the following symptoms for quite some time
*I have the sensation of tightness in the throat that is akin to
the sensation people have when they are about to cry, I have it every
day,
all day, but the worst is after dinner till bed time.
*I also have discomfort behind the breastbone, but it doesn't hurt.
* I have shortness of breath.
I went to the doctor and doctor asked me to take a upper GI endoscopy.
The result came back last week. The doctor said I have gastoesophageal
reflux. I read some articles on the internet, it seems that heartburn
is the most common complaint in people with esophagitis. But I never
have heartburn.
Could you tell me if it is possible that people with esophagitis can
have the above symptoms instead of heart burn?

Yes. In fact only about 40% of people with GERD have heartburn as the
primary symptom.
