followup on horrible cough

Finally got an appt with my GP today, she suggested I try Nexium again
(it wasn't a complete cure for GERD) at the higher dose - 40mg. Said
she'd been to some talk where they'd been told they "shouldn't be afraid
of high doses of Nexium". Wondering if you have any comments on this,
Howard?
Also changed my BP med, in case that is causing the cough.
This is a good indicator as to how bad the cough is:
We've just moved into temp apartment prior to our leaving the UK. When
we went to wait at our new bus stop, a lady there, also in the same
place, was complaining that she was going to have to move, there was
someone upstairs who was really sick, coughing and throwing up, so loud
she can't sleep. Yup, that's me. I'm actually not usually vomiting, but
it would sound that way. I am getting reflux "all the way up" at least
once a day though, so here's hoping that the Nexium will work!

Wow Jodi...that probably explains the whole thing if your BP med was an ace
inhibitor. They are notorius for causing coughing. Didn't your doctor tell
you that. Shame on her if you were taking an ace inhibitor and she didn't
know that. Hell, I don't even take BP pills and I am familiar with the five
main classes, and I am not a doctor...Pete

She did, but given the other issues (I'm most definitely having reflux
and I've had a cough longer than I've been on the new med), we couldn't
definitively say it was the new BP medicine.
Still can't. Today, the cough is better, more of a cold, "chesty"
cough, but still there, and still gets strong on occassion - just
doesn't last as long, or happen as often. There's hope though, that I'm
past the worst of this. Tonight will be telling. Will I cough? Will I
be able to sleep normally, or will I have to sleep on my back on the
makeshift "wedge" I put together last night with two pillows?

Jodi...I assume you were taking an ace inhibitor then (you didn't say). If
you were then that could have absolutely exacerbated a cough if you already
had one for a different reason, or it could have created the cough (but you
indicated you had the cough before). It's hard to follow your posts. Is
your new BP med the ace inhibitor, or is it another BP pill after you quit
the ace inhibitor (if you were on an ace inhibitor). I think I will stay
out of this :-) ...Pete

I was taking a beta-blocker (atenolol). I was then put on an ace
inhibitor - forget which one. I'm now on another (newer type?) ace
inhibitor. Still coughing at night, but it's more of a cold type cough
rather than the racking throwing-up sounding cough. So progress is
being made.
Sorry my posts are hard to follow. I'm under a certain amount of stress
right now, very disorganized.
