Hi Pete,

At the least this is a very complicated question/problem.

What I am saying (or trying to say) is that **most** heartburn/GERD
problems can be solved with lifestyle and diet changes along with
raising the head of the bed frame and that the GRJ has helped me
tremendously.

Also, your mind /attitude has a large effect on your condition.

I think we agree that the surgery NF should be the very last option.
While there are some people who have had the NF surgery and did good,
I don't believe you have made every change to your lifestyle, diet,
sleeping position and using GRJ. I am suggesting that you try all the
changes I have suggested which include having a positive attitude,
expecting the changes to help and heal your GERD, watch your diet very
carefully, eat several small meals a day rather than the normal three
meals, stop consuming anything that may make the GERD worse, don't
consume anything for about 4 to 5 hours before laying down to sleep,
make some GRJ yourself and sip several tablespoons full each day
especially first thing every morning and immediately after sipping the
GRJ lay down on a flat bed and slowly roll from each side to the other
keeping the GRJ in your esophagus as long as possible. Here is a web
site that explains help for GERD as good as any I have seen except for
the GRJ:

http://www.gicare.com/pated/ecdgs39.htm

I agree with everything they say except for using the wedge to prop up
the head rather than raising the whole bed. And I feel stopping eating
anything for 5 hours rather than 3 hours.

Another thing I just remembered is to chew DGL tablets during the
day.DGL is De-Gglycyrrhizinated Licorice by Nature's Herbs. I tried
other brands but couldn't stand the taste.

Now, what I'm saying is try all this to the best of your ability for
say three weeks and if no improvement then go for the surgery. Until
you have tried all this then the NF is not the last resort.

And I would also do some serious googling for a surgeon before I had
the surgery.

I hope this helps and if you would like to talk to me call me at
770-973-4590.

Oh,almost forgot, I have not been back to the gastro for any more EGD
to check for esophagus damage. I have no pain and take no antacid
except very occasionally, maybe 1 per three months, so I don't think I
need it.

Another thing I forgot to mention to you is you may have:

Helicobacter pylori

The bacteria H. pylori (Helicobacter pylori) usually don't cause
problems in childhood. However, if left untreated the bacteria can
lead to digestive illnesses, including gastritis (the irritation and
inflammation of the lining of the stomach), peptic ulcer disease
(characterized by sores that form in the stomach or the upper part of
the small intestine, called the duodenum), and even stomach cancer
later in life.

Good web site:

Some people confuse the pain caused by h. pylori with GERD. A simple
breath or blood test can confirm infection by h. pylori. If by chance
you do have h. pylori do *not* take the strong antibiotics prescribed
by doc. Mastic gum will destroy the h. pylori much better with no side
effects. h. pylori is another example of how doc drag their feet to
change. h. pylori was discovered by a doc in Austrailia and it took
him over then years to convince the meds that h. pylori was the cause
of ulcers in the stomach, etc. Call me on this if you like.

Best wishes.

Bill
