The reason that you experience pain, or burning is because you have
sustained some damage on the inside of your esophagus and when acidic
stomach gases come in contact with these sores or lesions, you will
experience pain.
When you drink orange or tomato juice, the acid in the beverage comes
in direct contact with the sores and lesions in your esophagus, and it
will cause pain.
People that don't experience pain or heartburn when they burp,
obviously don't have any esophageal damage. Everyone burps . . . but
not everyone hurts!
