Author Going From Ridiculous To Sublime. I Need Some Opinions Please.

After complaining about Nexium QD not helping me with my reflux (more
specifically my need to constantly expel a clear sinewy fluid that my
doc said is my body's reaction to GERD) and subsequently supplementing
that with two Pepcid's, I was moved to Protonix BID.

This seemed to help in reducing the symptoms, but after weeks of
taking that, I;ve developed a severe case of diarhea that made me stop
taking the Protonix. Now most of the time my stomach hurts when not
full, my intestines don't keep anything in me long enough to watch a
football game and ironically my reflux has subsided to its lowest
point.

I'm beginning to wonder if I have some kind of problem like Shigella
or any one of a number of bacterial viral issues that have been
causing me these problems all along. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Is this something I'd go back to the GI for or is there another
specialist more appropriate for this? My quality of life is now
officially shot.... any comments are much appreciated.

I am not a doctor, but quite an expert patient and the following are my
musings and should not be treated seriously but could be used as a basis for
discussion with your doctor. I suggest that you organise an appointment to
see your GI as soon as possible and treat it seriously.

Firstly, diarrhoea is a side-effect of pantozol
http://www.drugs.com/cons/protonix_systemic.html

Stomach pain could indicate a case of gastritis, a stomach ulcer, an
infection, such as H. pylori, Clostridium, etc., or the big C amongst
hundreds of other things. It might take a while or you might just have a
'stomach bug' and it will be diagnosed and treated with the relevant
antibiotics in a jiffy.

Tests could include, a stool sample test for Clostridium
http://www.cdiffsupport.com/aboutcdiff.html, Yersinia, etc.
http://www.nzfsa.govt.nz/science/data-sheets/index.htm, faecal occult blood
test, H. pylori test, glutein intolerance
http://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=68, lactose intolerance
http://www.kidshealth.org/teen/food...ntolerance.html ,
to name a few. Gastroendoscopy looking at the duodenum also would be a good
idea.

Keep a food diary and record medication, food and symptoms and discuss the
results with your doctor. Keep an eye out for blood in the stool.

Stick to a GERD diet in the meantime http://www.gicare.com/pated/ecdgs39.htm
It is bland and won't harm you - even though you have said that your GERD
symptoms are minimal.

All the best,

I mean, of course, treat your symptoms seriously and no what I have written.

I hear you and appreciate your insight. I'm in the process of trying
to find a good GI guy who can hopefully help me out. I've been scoped
and tested negative for H pylori, but am willing to get rescoped if
need be. What other tests are available? Surely they must have some
method of determining why my stomach is producing so much acid....
