Author Reflux worse after Stretta.

I underwent the Stretta procedure 5 weeks ago. After about the 3rd
week, I began to notice periods of slight improvement in my symptoms.
However, during the last 3 days I have experienced some of the worst
reflux in my life. My question is, as the lesions from the procedure
heal, is it normal to experience periods of worsening reflux? If
symptoms persist, at what point is the procedure considered a failure?
Also, I just got over a cold (nose, chest, throat) when all of this
started 3 days ago. Could the sudden onset of symptoms be related to
that? I did not notice any significant difference in symptoms while
ill.

Thanks,
Travis

It's far too early to determine whether or not your Stretta procedure is a
failure. The original randomized prospective trial indicated general
improvement in reflux, both symptomatically and by ambulatory pH testing,
over a 1 year period. Generally, a Stretta procedure would be considered a
failure is there is no objectively documented improvement after 6 months. I
think most Stretta physicians would agree that it's appropriate to wait that
length of time.
