I have been experiencing nausea and diarrhea intermittently for about
10 weeks. It initially started with a violent attack of diarrhea. I
experience symptoms like gall bladder "attack" when I eat fats
(gall bladder removed 5 years ago). I also get diarrhea within an hour
after eating a meal. I can reduce the diarrhea by limiting my food
intake to small amounts every few hours. I have chronic pain between my
shoulders blades/upper back and am tender in the URQ. Blood work and
stool tests have eliminated parasites and infection. I had an MRI that
indicated a pancreatic cyst and an endoscopy that revealed Duodenitis,
Gastritis, & Esophagitis. They have taken biopsies and I will be
referred to a pancreatic specialist when the results have been
received. I am on Protonix and Bentyl for my symptoms. Unfortunately, I
have dropped from 133 to 119 lbs. and am exhausted! I have also
developed intolerance for dairy and taking lactose free Boost or Ensure
2x daily and eating a bland diet. Anyone have any advice?.

If the biopsies come up positive then you will get a diagnosis soon from the
docs.

If the biopsies are negative then I suggest that you discuss the following
with your docs: Out of control acidification of the stomach can/will lead to
inactivation of pancreatic enzymes, which will result in steatorrhea. A test
for this is the beta-carotine level in the blood and a stool fat test. In
the latter the stool is collected daily for a period of 3 days and the
volume and fat content tested. Normal is under 12 g fat excreted per day. My
levels were between 100 and 180 g fat/day in September 2005 and blood level
of beta-carotine was 40 micrograms/ml (normal ranges 150-1250 micrograms/ml
blood). My current meds for this are Creon 20 granule sachets (1/2-1/2-1/2),
ursofalk(1-1-1) and lipocol (1/2-1/2-1/2). For the diarrhoea you should be
drinking rehydrate solutions (tea, coffee, cocoa, citrus fruits, etc. should
be elimated from your diet for a few days). Check the relevant bits of this
paper out:http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/518604 There is a recipe for
rehydrate solution at the end.

This paper has a great diagramme on the working of the gut
