Vomit-like feeling

| I was recently diagnosed with Haital hernia.
I am not having any heartburns lately ( i am on Prevacid)
But for last few days I am having a strange feeling - like I am going
to vomit but I do't atually vomit.
It started after I took Alegra-D for my allergies.
I am not sure if it is hernia related or is it something else. Can
someone help?

How did your doctor diagnose your hiatus hernia? What tests did he/she do to
come to that conclusion?

Your problem is not necessarily with your hiatus hernia, it's with
malfunction of your lower esophageal sphincter. Now, it's true that a hiatus
hernia can contribute to LES malfunction, but hiatus hernia is only present
in about 40% of people with GERD. The majority of people with hiatus hernia
have no GERD symptoms, and the majority of people with GERD don't have
hiatus hernia.
The feeling that you might have to vomit may very well be related to your
LES problem. Best thing to do is lose weight, sleep upright, eat small
meals, don't smoke, don't drink, stay away from caffiene, and don't eat
anything after 8:00PM.

Surgery is an option when non-surgical treatment has failed to control your
symptoms to your satisfaction.

I am diagnosed with acid reflux disease, hiatal hernia and lower
esophageal ring. It seems like you and I both have similar symptoms. I take
prescription omehprazole to treat my heartburns and acid reflux. I also take
Allegra-D for my seasonal allergies. So, I know the "vomit-like" feeling.
That feeling is not necessarily related to hiatal hernia. It could be caused
by indigestion. I get that symptom every other morning at the first thing.
Sometimes, my stomach or pancreas would feel indigestion and would cause the
"vomit-like" feeling. Sometimes, I would feel constipated and couldn't do a
bowel movement for days. If you feel like that, you should try drinking
prune juice to treat indigestion and/or constipation rather than taking Milk
of Magnesium or laxative. Laxatives would cause me to have diarrhea if I
have an indigestion and/or constipation. Prune juice works best for me. I'm
not 100% sure what causes the "vomit-like" feeling, but you might want to
consult your doctor about those symptoms you mentioned. Let me know what
your doctor says and I might talk to my doctor about it or do some more
research.
