Author antibiotics worsening GERD?

I've been on lasoprazole 30mg for a while now, and it's completely
controlled my GERD symptoms.

Late September, I started coming down with a respiratory infection.
Eventually it got really bad, and I was on increasingly strong
antibiotics for over 3 weeks. During that time, I took daily 'doses' of
yoghurt (both the normal, and the drinkable pre/pro biotic stuff) to try
to keep my good gut flora from dying.

Now I'm still coughing, but it seems more like a GERD cough than a
bronchitis cough. There's been one or two incidents where I've had acid
in my throat (also once or twice actually regurgitated), and my
stomach's been very noisy. Also gassy. All symptoms like I had before
I started getting the heart-attack like chest pains which caused me to
go on meds.

I've not heard that antibiotics can worsen gerd, even temporarily, but
I'm wondering if anybody else has ever experienced this, and can tell me
if this is temporary, or if I'll need to have this seen to...

I cannot dispute the antibotics may be contributing to the problem,
but considering the fact you are sick, the additional physical and
mental stress from your illness may be a factor, too.

Just something to think about.

Yea. Last night and this morning, it became clear that the respiratory
infection is making a comeback. Darn, more antibiotics. I'm gonna be a
walking "resistant bug" factory if this keeps up!

I was recently put on antibiotics for a 'sinus infection'. It didn't
work, but I had really bad refluxing symptoms. ENT now says I have LPR
which was the original problem all along. I haven't accepted this
diagnosis 100% (she's not completely sure either...had me take an
allergy test too), but am feeling some of the symptoms. I'm seriously
wondering if I am maniefesting the symptoms as the doctor diagnoses me
with something new each time I see her. Maybe neither of us knows.

Theory is that I have had silent reflux and my discomfort with the
antibiotics brought the condition to the forefront.

Laryngopharyngeal Reflux, acid reaches into throat and even mouth.
