Author lower back pain numbness in finger?

This may be totally unrelated but I have to ask. I had to have a
laminectomy in 2003. Everything was fine until my back "went out"
again three weeks ago. I had an MRI and it show two herniated disks
and post operative scaring. The pain is in the lower left side of my
back. I am still in a lot of pain but better than I was. This past
weekend I noticed that my pinky finger on my left hand was numb and it
still is. It sounds strange but is it possibly related to my back
problem?

Involving which vertebrae?

I assume the herniations etc are in the lo back.

"Referred" pain from lo-back is usually felt in legs, ankles, feet.

"Referred" pain from upper-back problems (i.e. cervical spondylosis)
is usually felt in arms, wrists, hands.

In either case, as I understand it (per my ortho), the pain need not
be
symmetrical (i.e. in both limbs).

Have you had imaging done on your neck? If you have radiologists
reports from X-ray, MRI, etc, what do they say?

Hope it helps ...

Absolutely.....numbness is one symptom of nerve compression/damage.
Depending on where in your back the disks are damaged, it could be the
reason for the numbness. Here is an excellent chart showing which vertebrae
connect to which parts of the body. Hope it helps....please check out all 3
links as they show exactly what connects to what.
