| who has a better record of success - Chiropractor or Neuro Surgeon ?
Hi
Re Herniated disks
****************************
In this case who is more appropriate a Neuro surgeon or a chiropractor
?
Who has a better track record of success in herniated disks ?
This would be very valuable input.
Thanks

| I was going to a Chiroprator and I was having no
relief.. He decided to take an x-ray of my lower
back and it showed disk trouble..he wouldnt touch
me there anymore and I went to a Neuro and had a
Milogram (sp) and the next day I was in surgery!
This was 20 odd years ago... Chiroprator caught it
and Neuro fixed it... Two more disks are going so I
am looking at more surgery in near future..

I think each case is individual. My orthopedic surgeon says the trouble with
neuro's is that they're trained to cut and if they can't do surgery they
aren't interested in that person as a patient. He said that neuro's are,
often, over eager to cut. I would suggest that if you find an ortho who
thinks you need neurosurgery then that's what you need. (Ortho surgeons
aren't eager to cut, at all, so if one thinks you need a neuro then do it.
If you get surgery, I suggest you spent as much time resting as possible,
slowly (months and months if necessary) to get back to a functional level.
Unfortunately I didn't do this.
In my own experience, chiropractory kept me going for a few more years until
I was flat on my back from pain. The disc as L4/L5 was crumbling sending
chunks of disc down the thecal sac. Those chunks hurt like, well, it got to
the point where, when I was entering a building right behind someone. They
suddenly turned around and I had to halt, naturally it was on the sciatic
leg that I came to a stop on. This put me out of work another week.

| GG my pain doctor has sent me to an orthopedic surgeon this time... I do
know what you are talking about with
the neuro being egar to cut but it happened so fast that
I really didnt have time to think.. The sciatic was bad
in the right leg. But there was a tangled nerve involved
also. I would walk across the floor and it would feel like
someone with an axe walked up behind me and womp!
But the sciatic pain is now in the left leg from the same
area 4, 5 & 6 that was taken care of back then. Two
disc's fused and one removed.. Pain doc
said that over a period of time it would break down (cant
remember if that is just what he said but best I can explain it) and now
have to have work done on that area again.
Two bulging disc's in the neck will be worked on and
a monster of a bunion on my left foot...(the foot looks like something out
of a monster movie) might as well get everything done at once. Had a new
jaw put on years ago and the right foot operated on at the same time. Heck
I will do almost anything to get out of cooking :-)
Are you in the wheelchair from your operation along with other things?
Please remember to let us know what the grandson's
thinks of you and the Easter Bunny :-)
Have you heard from Cabbie lately? Hope he is
alright because he hasnt been here in quite awhile.
