Hi all,
I'm 36 years old.
A year ago started bad headaches. one sided. left side. with neck and
shouldier pain and difficulty lowering my head down towrads my chest.
My skull hurts badly, from it's base up tp the forhead. my artery near
the temporals gets swollen from time to time. very creepy.
behind my ear i have pain and in my teeth. (only started laletly).
I have done an ESR - which is very low. MRI - OK.
(a cyst was found in the sinus - left side - maxillary).
after i eat chocolate my artery is especialy swollen.
my hands are very stiff and sometimes my legs as well.
the artery in my neck seems swollen as well.
I seem to have slwooen lymph nodes in my neck, both sides.

Please, any idea?!?!
thanks for any comment
Gali

Dear Gali,

Probably the most dangerous thing a patient can do is to try matching up
symptoms to a diagnosis. We do it all the time, being impatient, in pain and
wanting answers yesterday, not now, surely not tomorrow. but it's a good way
to come up with some off the wall ideas, which can make it harder to come up
with the right diagnosis.
Your symptoms can be from a zillion things, and it sounds like even the doc
who has seen you in person and examined you still needs more info, not so
much from you as about you. It's time for testing and that can be a rough
period. Not all of them are painless, not all of them will show something
definite and it can be very frustrating. Sometimes they just have to keep
eliminating stuff, trying other therapies, other medications, not all of
them will be pleasant. But each one tells them a little more or eliminates a
cause, on and on until they can nail it down.
Hang in there and keep communicating with you doc, there's a big difference
between hearing and listening, so be sure they listen to you. You'll nail
the problem down.

Take Care and keep in touch--og

im gonna throw something out here as a wild guess. the chocolate thing
got me. do you get a swollen artery from eating old chease, processed
meats, red wine, or anything aged smoked or pickled? some people get
bad headaches from eating these foods. the culprit is tyramine. ive
never heard of it swelling up arteries or anything like that but its
worth a mention. anything is possible it could be giving you
hypertension or something. some people are sensitive to tyramine.
anyone taking a typical maoi drug has to avoid it at all costs as it
can cause hypertension or even strokes.

As a long time migraineur I empathize with you greatly.

I think that before going any further, maybe your neuro would
want to do some more testing? Perhaps a more complete
MRI of your entire head is in order, if I'm understanding that
he only did the lower part.

Once it's established that there is nothing else wrong, then
there are a lot of things you can try..both for prevention,
and for abortive measures...but please do rule anything
else out first!

Migraines ARE weird animals, and can cause an array of symptoms
even complete blindness during the episode...so I'm not trying to
worry you, just wanting to make sure that he's ruled everything
out first.

Best of luck to you,

codeee

Good thought roboT.!!!

I'd think that until this is eliminated, it would also be scary to use
any of the imitrex "family" of drugs as well, due to the serotonin and
risk of stroke!

I would say the cyst is the problem have it removed and work from there,
also have them do a C.t.scan and MRI of your spine to see if any under lying
problems in that area especially the neck area. In the mean time don't eat
chocolate!
