** Paula Abdul and her chronic pain **

Did anyone get a chance to see Paula Abdul talk openly about her battle
with chronic pain, more specifically RSD, last night on Entertainment
Tonight?
She was very open about all of the things we have all been through
seeking pain relief, i.e., pain, depression, friends disappearing etc.
She recently began treatment with a med called Enbrel. She gives
herself a shot once a week and it has relieved all of her pain. Here
is a link http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/etanercept_pi.htm
Here is a link to her interview in People Magazine
http://people.aol.com/people/ataol/...51641_1,00.html
This sounds like something I will be discussing with my pain doctor at
my next appointment. It sounds too good to be true, but she says her
pain is gone and she has been suffering since she was 17 years old and
had a cheer leading accident. Since that time, she has had 12
surgeries, 2 car accidents and an airplane accident that have added to
her pain.
When she was talking, it was like listening to any one of us. It
certainly is bringing chronic pain to the forefront. This can be good
for all chronic painers due to her popularity again.

I missed that, but I DID catch where she's being accused of messing
around with one of the American Idol contestants--a guy in his 20s. I
guess we all do whatever we can toget our pain under control! ;)
The "kid" is currently trying to sell his story as a book. Whatever
happened to that gentleman thing I was taught all my life about not
kissing and telling? Hey, anything for a buck!
All kidding aside, it's sad that she's going thru it....the RSD and the
greedy braggart trying to cash in on any contact they may have had.
Enbrel is something I thought was just for Rheumatoid Arthritis.

| I did not see it, sweetie...but was aware of it. She has really
suffered (like you). Like you also, I admire her totally! I have a
personal friend who uses Embrel on her daughter, and has had fantastic
results. I hope there is help for you in this med! Please let me
know if I can give you any more information on it. I love ya to
pieces, and would love to see you get relief!

It could be just the ticket to help thousands of people who suffer with
RSD. My doctor keeps up on all the latest informatioin available, so
it may be that Enbrel just isn't something that could work for me. I
won't get my hopes up, but I am definitely going to ask about it.
I had wondered where she had been for so many years when she showed up
on The American Idol. She popped back into the limelight without a
word about where she had been or what she had been doing. It's good to
see her and I'm very happy she has found relief from her years of pain.

Enbrel for RSD? Wow, I just started using it for my RA, and it's been
pretty dang awesome, went from not being able to make a fist (with
either hand) to making a "tight" fist with the left and a loose one
with the right (ONE DAY after the first injection). It isn't a
"miracle" drug for me, but what it *has* done I find somewhat
miraculous.
I hope it works for you as well (expensive as all get out though
without decent Rx coverage, thanks honey for being in the military for
20 years).

the one thing about Paula, is I can't stand the way she slaps her hands
together when she is clapping on the american idol show. I have seen
simon looking at her also with frowns, it is so annoying. if she is
going to clap she should just do a normal clap but she claps like a
three year old. I don't know if that is caused by her pain. on another
show she said she lost weight for a long time because of pain and it
gave her chattering teeth and chills...to me this sounded like drug
withdrawal maybe she has been coming off pain medication and going on
Enbrel? If that is the case, it would have been nice for her to just
tell the truth about her pain medication if indeed that is what it was
that caused the effects she described. she definitely seems pretty
jaded, superficial and sort of burned out. she has been getting more
and more on my nerves, and when i heard she had been in a hit and run,
that was too much.

Actually, I think the weight loss thing was due to an eating disorder
(which I don't believe she has completely under control). Most
Hollyweird actresses are held to a weight standard that is nearly
impossible to maintain.
As an example, while Nicole Kidman was filming Stepford Wives (ewww),
Bette Midler made the comment that Nic was always shivering, even under
the lighting for filming (and that's pretty hot). Because she was/is
so thin, she cannot even maintain a normal body temp, and Paula was/is
the same way, she was too thin, so she shivered to try and stay warm.

Why is it that we expect Celebrities to bear their souls in public?
If she was going through withdrawal because of prescription
medications that is her business and not ours. All the media would do
with it is use it as an example of the horrors of drug use anyways.

| You really DO have a great doc...and I'm sure if it's an option for
you, he'll go for it :-) I would really be happy if this could help
you!!!
I too wondered where she went. I know she suffered an eating disorder
along with everything else. Maybe it took years to get straightened
away. Good for her that she did! I think she has a great attitude
and is really good for the young people trying to make it in the world
of music!

I'm going to have to politely disagree with you :-) She's been an ill
woman, and has made a come back and helps others try to further their
careers in music. I think she is courageous and positive. :-)

She has, in fact, battled an eating disorder. Not an easy thing to
come back from. My friend's daughter has an eating disorder, and it
is just awful :-(
I know that *I* don't have to worry about having shivers! LOLOLOL
