| You are right...I attacked your character based upon your posting
history....
HOWEVER...you have NOT backed your opinions with facts....as I spent several
hours googling the research and development costs of drugs....and your
statement "funded mostly by our tax dollars" is not legitimate
As far as "track records" of other countries health care...what you seem
relunctant to admit..is that such track records actually reflect that the
US....for instance...does NOT allow 1 pound preemies to die...well..they
still may die..but not until every treatment known to medicine is
exhausted...so comparing our numbers of deaths of infants with
countries...most other countries BTW...who will NOT work on 1 pound
preemies...gives a very very skewed picture....
so saying "they outperform the US in almost all areas...etc" usually means
they are more likely..much more likely...to allow folks to die whilst we
spend mucho money attempting to allow them to live...when they do die..their
numbers end up in the die column....
tell me again another country that performs open heart surgery on all
comers...funny...I just read that Canada JUST extended the age of heart
transplants to 65...US has NO age where they will not transplant you...same
thing as dialysis...last I heard the UK has an age 65 for top age for
dialysis..ie..you die if you have renal failure after that age...we have NO
age limit
do I think this is always the best way to allocate resources?? course
not...but this is America..and we don't practice rationing..ALL countries
with nationalized health care make their dollars stretch with
rationioning...
ever wonder why 70 year old Canadians come to Michigan or Minnesota and pay
cash for open heart surgery?? cuz they cannot get it with their NHS
yes they have specialists in all countries...but with nationalized health
care..one CANNOT self refer...they first must see their PCP...then the
waiting begins..
with health care coverage in the US...MRI's can be had in a day...I did it
twice in the past two years..also scheduled and received a cardiac stress
test in 24 hours...try that in Canada...and yes...we have PPO coverage....
Curious as to the meaning of this statement "which is why their average age
at death is higher than ours"....obviously those that died younger could
have lived longer if transplants or dialysis were available to all ages...
My husband does not...nor has ever..worked for a drug company...actually he
is retired...his field was "medical devices"....far far different than
pharma....not that I would expect you to know the difference...
drugs being "made" and "developed" are two widely different things....anyone
can bake a cake when they are provided with the recipe..which is exactly
what is being done...labor costs are lower outside of the US...the R and D
is done here...
BTW your reference to Cuba decribes a plan starting in April 2005...ie this
has not even started yet...so your comment "many of our drugs are made by
foreign countries..even Communist Cuba"...is..well ...a tad premature..not
to mention misleading..
my prescribing drugs make me FAR more knowledgeable than you...who (see
above) seems unable to even extrapolate a "plan" that hasn't even started
yet...
