How are our Florida sisters

| We have had horrible winds here because of the Florida tornadoes. We
are loving it because the mosquitoes are not out because there is just
too much wind. I feel bad for the people who only had two days to
scuba and it is too dangerous to go out int his weather.
So instead we sent to town so that I could get the presents I needed
to get, couldn't get a water taxi so we sat down for a rum punch, and
I promptly got up and left with my purchases on the floor. Kathy
called the bar (Fido's which you would all love with the palm thatched
room and young tanned waiters, and they didn't have the time to even
look for it. So Kathy called a friend who has a shop in town and she
ran down to see and sure enough, it was still sitting there on the
floor.
So not only can I not spell sober, but I cannot be trusted to take
care of my own purchases while drinking. I didn't think there was even
any rum in the punch, but I guess I am not a good judge.
Hope Jeanne and Barbara are okay.

| Thanks, but I was oblivious. The weather was way up north, in the
Orlando area. I'm way down the SW coast and Barbara is further down the
SE coast, probably enjoying the drizzly day like I am. Except for the
creeping dampness, it's been a terrific day for sleeping--hooray, it's
my weekend!
Don't worry--tornados on the coast rarely amount to anything. It's the
hurricanes that are really out to get us.

| I was totally unaware of the bad weather. My daughter is here visiting, and
I have been so sick of the Super Bowl hype on the news every night for the
last month that I have stopped watching the local news. I don't need to
know when the crew foreman takes a break to go pee--I'm exaggerating, but it
has been almost that bad.
We had one cold night, and it has been blowy, but nothing really out of the
ordinary. However, a close friend in Lady Lake said the devastation was
terrible. A friend only a mile from her lost everything. A concrete block
house was absolutely flattened, and 14 people in the area were killed.
That's more people than they admitted were killed by hurricane Andrew! I
know a lot of people up in that area because of my connection with the
horses, and everyone I know escaped damage, but those in the path weren't so
lucky. They said it was one of the worst tornados ever to his Florida. Has
anyone heard from Nae. She's up in that area, I think.

| No, Nae is across the state from me, in Sanford (I think that's between
Orlando and Daytona). I'm the one actually an hour south of Sarasota and
Venice. I hear (I think through Julie) that some of her neighbors are
hurting, but she's okay. So many people giving her a shout out and no
reply--I was starting to worry!

| Sorry, have been offline the last couple of days.
We are fine, thanks for all the worry
They hit to the left of us, below us and above us right across the
river. We had lots of rain, lots of wind knocking down trees,
branches, etc., but no house/structure damage ... just lots and lots
of clean up We do have friends across the river near Deland who
lost everything who will be staying with us until they figure out what
is what. As I just told somebody over at MTD ... since the last 4
years of what seems like nonstop storms, most folks here pretty much
have generators, tarps, tents, food, water on permanent standby
anymore, including a lot of our lower income folks in this area since
we seem to be the central corridor for tornados the last 2 years or
so.
I know it sounds odd, but for the most part folks around here have
sort of learned to just take it in stride and set about cleaning up
without waiting around on the feds, the state, or private insurance
(pretty much nonexistant for most of us in this area anyway since they
started dropping folks like hot cakes the year we had 4 hurricanes in
a row!). This time will probably be even harder since we were told
when the tornados that hit on Christmas that there was simply no more
disaster fund money left to help out in our area at all, and I did
hear that the Red Cross was claiming they only had $40,000 total, for
the whole state, and were begging for donations. Something I saw on
the news last night said we could probably expect at least 3 more of
these bad storm outbreaks between now and April when they think the El
Nino stuff will fizzle out ... not something I am looking forward to I
can darn sure tell ya!

I emailed her yesterday when I saw the news and heard back from her. She's
okay but the storms apparently hit all around here and her house is okay.
