Author Stedman's and Word

Help! I just received my computer set-up from work. They have
Stedman's on here, but it's not actually interfacing with Word when I
type. Every medical term is underlined as a spelling error. What do I
do to get the Stedman's to interface with Word? The people at work seem
clueless!

Is there another word processing program on that computer also? Sometimes,
people who don't know what they are doing install the programs and they
install it on a different word processing program. I am assuming you are
talking about the spellchecker, though. When you install that, you are
prompted to pick the word processing program to install it "with".

No, there is only Word on here. Actually, it's the Dolbey Fusion Text
system using Word 2003. And the Stedman's is version 6.0.

Valerie,

Did you check under "tools" and "options" then "spelling and grammar" and
click on "custom" to see if the company has your Stedman's showing as
checked for custom? The computer may still be looking at the Word
spellchecker and may not have the custom one selected for you. That might
be one reason any medical word would be showing underlined in red.

Actually, I did and Stedman's isn't even showing up under the Custom
Dictionaries. The only thing there is "Custom.dic" or somethingl like
that. Stedman's is definitely loaded on the compter - how do I get it
into the dictionary program?

If I remember correctly, when you load a medical dictionary into Word, it
just adds all the medical words into the "custom.dic", so it will not list
anything like "Stedman's", even though all the words are in there.

Nevermind. I found out today that Stedman's Dictionary is NOT a
spellchecker - the hospital put the wrong freakin' thing on the
computer.

What Word does is to add all of the words in Stedman's to its *own*
spellchecker, so in essence, Stedman's is a spellchecker.

At least the one I have works like that.

That would be one good reason it doesn't work!

That is what I suspected all along. Stedman's Dictionary and Stedman's
Spellchecker are two different entities. Both are useful, but in different
ways. I have both on my computer.
