Author speaking of mary in a grilled cheese

Okay, now a water spot on a concrete overpass is the latest miracle of Mary
appearing in a weird place. People are weeping! I'm sorry, am I too cynical?

My opinion: (disclaimer--this is only an opinion and my very own at that--I
do not dare push it on anyone else, just sharing it)

People are getting further and further from believing in their Gods as there
are just no miracles of the Bible anymore to keep them safe in their faith,
so whatever crutch (not meant to be derogatory, just a fitting word) they
can find, they are pouncing on in order to restore something they feel
they're losing.

So you've heard of Our Lady of Graffitti or Our Lady Of the Kennedy - patron

Yes, I do believe that people are just so overwhelmed that they will look to
anything for comfort.

It is a water stain on concrete. It's been there for quite time. But it is
amazing how it only takes one or two people to put an idea in other people's
heads and all reason goes out the window.

IDOT is treating it like any other road side memorial for now, but the
flowrs, the candles, the offerings and the crowds just keep growing.

When I see these fools, I see how easy it was for Jim Jones, Jimmy Swaggert,
Benny Hihn, Jerry Falwell, James Dobson, Billly Graham and all those frauds
to keep leading the masses to their bank accounts!!!

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal
power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what
has been made, so that men are without excuse. (Rom 1:20 NIV)

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave
thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts
were darkened. (Rom 1:21 NIV)

Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools (Rom 1:22 NIV)

and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like
mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. (Rom 1:23 NIV)

I did some transcription for author, Patricia Cornwell, a few years ago and
Billy Graham basically helped raise her and I didn't care for him much
either until she told some of the stories of her youth with him. I can't
stand to watch him on TV and think about what he is doing, but apparently he
is a good human, or at least in her eyes and I admire that woman deeply.

Exactly, he's no better. He was very political and the one president he
ignored was the most Christian, especially after leaving the white house,
Jimmy Carter, No I never support Carter. But shows you Graham's "great"
Christianity! He is no different, in my never very humble opinion. After
his last comments about the last election I put him right into that group
100%!

I usually lurk, but this is a subject close to my heart.

"as there are just no miracles of the Bible anymore to keep them safe in
their faith,"

I think miracles happen all the time and have had a couple of
experiences that I firmly believe were miracles. Perhaps now we tend to
term them as "luck" or "coincidence" or " a close call" and not
recognize events for the miracles they may be.

LOL that reminds me. Missouri is completely redoing Hwy 60 and have been
ever since my sisters moved to Springfield about 15 years ago and we have a
new way to go or a new detour every time we go visit. This last time there
were signs every 50 miles or so talking about MODOT dollars at work and when
a certain project would be completed. What was the best was one where it was
obvious they were taking over someone's home to run the new four lanes and
right under the blue MODOT sign in their yard they had put a huge sign sayin
MODOT SUCKS.

Someone sees what they think reflects their own image of what the

It's pretty miraculous someone can look at a grilled cheese sandwich or
a water spot and convince themselves it looks like the virgin Mary.

And what about all those messages from Satan in vinyl records played
backward?

I must just be imagination challenged.

I enjoyed the earlier Scarpetta books, but the main characters, who were
early on flawed but likable, by the book "Trace" had not only become
unbearably self-centered, but completely moved beyond the limits of
credibility as far as their personalities and actions went. (Exhibit A:
Benton.) I stopped about halfway through "Trace," and that makes me sad,
because that was one series of books I used to truly enjoy.

The Jack the Ripper book was moderately interesting, but very repetitive,
more like a presentation of evidence in a trial than leisure reading.

This whole thing boggles my mind. People are praying to a water stain
on a concrete wall because it reminds them of a picture they saw of a
statue in a church that was carved to look like what an artist 800 years
ago figured that someone who never had her picture painted might have
looked like. (What ever happened to "make no graven images", anyhow?)
From the pictures they always use, I'm guessing that Joseph and Mary
must have been rather wealthy and politically powerful, as they're
always shown with her dressed in white and purple clothing in a time
when nothing would have stayed white very long and when purple was not
only incredibly expensive to produce, but was usually limited to
royalty.

In any case, those images on walls, pizzas and cheese sandwiches tend to
look to me like the zig-zag man and Joan Baez. But, then, there's no
money to be had in proclaming that sort of resemblence, and no one can
get any religious mileage out of it.

I don't believe that Alice was addressing the issue of sandwiches as icons,
but rather how we individually view the daily occurrences of life.

Have you ever tried to catch a cloud on the edge of a building or a tree so
that it appears as if the cloud is staying still while the earth is moving?
It can tend to make you a bit dizzy, but it's really a strange feeling when
it works.
