Author headset question

Okay, here's another one since no one had any suggestions on my last
question.

For those of you who do digital transcription, what headsets do you use?

I use the plastic stethoscope type and have always loved the clarity of
them, but does anyone have ones they use that they have compared to the
steth type and have you found ones that are even better?

Also, I have used Bytescribe, Express Scribe, Start Stop, DVPS, and FTR for
my player, but haven't really paid attention if there was any difference in
audio quality as it was playing. Any thoughts on this about different
players playing audio any better or worse than others?

One more. Have any of you ever found that certain sound cards or sound card
properties make a difference on how good the audio quality is on downloaded
transcription?

I have been doing digital for five years now and am just getting around to
trying to get the best setup I can get in order to play files and be able to
hear them very well. Yeah, I'm sometimes a procrastinator(sp).

I like stereo headphones with muffs on both sides. I just use an adaptor to
make the sound come through both ears.

I'd choose the SoundBlaster Audigy. SR (speech recognition) is very
sensitive in that regard, and that's one sound card that is recommended.
Works great for me.

I use a headset from Radio Shack. Over-the-head type, with muffs on each
ear. I can't listen with anything but stereo. A long cord is essential,
also, since it plugs into the back of my computer. It also has a volume
control in the cord.

That is probably the same headset I use. I think personal preference has a
lot to do with it. I have spare headsets from CyberGuys that cost less than
$3 each, and the sound quality is fine. I like the Radio Shack ones
primarily because of the sound control, as I have one dictator who sometimes
puts his recorder on his desk and dictates from farther away, and sometimes
up close, and I have to change the volume setting frequently. Otherwise,
the cheaper ones sound just as good. I cannot stand the stethoscope
type--that's just me. I have half a dozen pairs of them around and can't
keep them on for 5 minutes. My hearing is also much better in my right ear
than the left, but I like the ones that cover both ears. I have an
expensive pair of Andrea ANC 750 that I used with VR for voice accuracy, but
really though don't sound any better than my less expensive ones. If
microphone quality weren't the question, they wouldn't be worth the price.

In the past, I used the Sony stethoscopes both the metal and plastic
ones -- they always gave me a headache, probably because they are
heavier.

I had the Lanier white plastic stethoscope which I really like because
it is very light. Unfortunately, I broke this one.

Currently, I'm using an ultralight Sony MDR-WO8.

This is the earphone used for Sony Walkman and portable CD players. I
bought it from Walmart for about $10.00. The sound reproduction is
amazingly clear and it is featherlight.
