Author My taxes are done!!

Well, I may have turned them in late but they are done and a refund of
$4200!! I knew we probably didn't owe but I hate doing them, hate dealing
with them, detest them. DH gets so ticked at me, but I can't help it!! Oh,
well, better than owing, I guess. Poor DH pays a ton, I made poverty wages
this year so that helped, I guess. At least we'll have that to help make
house payments if my work continues as is!!!

I just saw my CPA and expected to receive a hard copy of my tax return
that I can rush mail. However, we had a little miscommunication and he
did an electronic filing for me an hour ago. So, no more rushing to the
post office. What a relief. I'm also expecting a refund. I hope other
people will share their experience with electronic filing good or bad.

I've been doing electronic filing since 1998 and it's always in my bank
account the day it says it will be and never a problem. I love it and would
do it no other way.

For many years until four years ago I was able to use the telephone to do my
simple taxes and was done usually by the first week in February. Now H&R
Block files them for me since they've become a bit more complicated. I
haven't had to mail in my taxes for about 15 years now and love doing it
this way.

Wow. Your return must be *real* complicated. I did one today, that we
will e-file that used almost every line on page 1. I think the only
lines not used was for unemployment and for Social Security. <G>

I guess you can color me wary of techno tax filing. I guess ours is
somewhat complicated with business stuff on it. However, if there is any
refund it goes towards first quarter anyway, so no point in bothering
because there isn't going to be any cash coming my way.

Mine is 15 pages every year and I still use e-file using Taxact every year.
Efiling doesn't have to have the simple format anymore, that's only for the
phone in option.

Hmmmm. I doubt it is more complicated than someone with 4
corporations, 3 partnerships, 7 rental properties, W2, interest earned,
dividends, capital gain, tax-free exchange, gambling winnings and other
income. That was LOTS of pages. <G> Lots of entry time, too.

Probably not, just not an option I bother with at this time. Like I said no
hurry for me. No bother to mail, either.

Haven't ever e-mailed and probably never will. When I asked if they
could guarantee the information could not be hacked, they stated it was
"secure". They would guarantee nothing. The White House has been
hacked into, the Pentagon has been hacked into, national banks have been
hacked into . . . Things can go awry with mailing too, but haven't, so
I'll stick to that.

After reading your comments, this electronic filing stuff is getting me
nervous. My CPA did an electronic filing for me and this is my first
time using this route. I've always mailed my tax return up until
yesterday. Forgive me for my ignorance, but when filing electronically,
will the IRS give an electronic receipt or an autoresponse? Sort of like
an acknowledgement that they received your tax return.

When an e-file provider submits the return(s), they are either accepted
or denied. The provider receives an acknowlegment which then becomes a
part of your file in their office. If the returns are accepted,
nothing more has to be done. If rejected, error codes are given and
ways of correcting the error are provided. Usually, the reasons for
rejection are mismatch of the name and Social Security number--like
married women who have yet to change their name on their SS account.
We have one or two over the years that came back because a dependent,
usually a college student has claimed themselves and then their parent
files later also claiming them.

I wound up owing almost $1400 this year--new client, didn't pay enough
in--and last year when I went digital and bought a new computer, server,
etc. my expenses were more. I thought I would owe an extra $200 or $300,
not $1400. Blows the budget for a while!
