You can also try places that resell used equipment. We got our treadmill at
Play It Again Sports used, but still in good condition. It's lasted a good
4 years (although probably only 6 months worth of use. trying to convince
BF to get rid of it). Our neighbor just gave us a nice stairstepper, it was
on one of these that I lost a lot of weight 12 years ago. Unfortunately,
they are probably bad for the knees.

I've heard good things about the elliptical, and would get one of those if
it were affordable.
