| I can't make this look right, no matter which way I put it, and I knew
someone here could tell me which is correct!
In an op note, under the heading "Fluids Replaced", when they say, "per
anesthesia", should I capitalize anesthesia? They're not saying, "ABC
Hospital Anesthesia Department," so that makes me think I shouldn't, but
it looks funny in lowercase too...
What is correct?
Thanks!

| If you have the word "department," no need to cap it. If you have just
Anesthesia, however, capping shows that it is an entity, not just the
anesthesia that was administered. If you don't cap it, you are
probably okay in terms of being understood. This is from page 47 of
the second edition of the BOS.

I may be the minority, but I've always capitalized it.
Hate to tell you, Su, but that is what the BOS says.

| Now if only people would learn to use proved/proven--that is the one that
REALLY bugs me.

| When I was in school for the past participle (oh, lord, I've forgotten the
names of all those tenses) accepted "proven" as ok, but preferred proved.
But it has (to the best of my knowledge) never been right to say, "It was
proven," or :"It is proven." That's just plain wrong--and I hardly ever seen
the word "proved" used any more--in ad copy, on TV, in the written word.
It's as if "proved" never existed. Every time it is misused it is like
chalk squeaking on a blackboard to me. You see I was destined to be an MT,
even if I did not come to it until late in life!

| Oh... so intead of "it is proven" you would say "It has been proven" (past
participle?) That sounds right to me. And "I proved that you are wrong!"
Right? :-)
