Wish they'd stop trying telling me someone is trying to access my account.
This is about the third time I've received this email in the last month and
reported it as spam since I don't have an account with them. They give a
link purportedly to this bank but in reality not and state I should enter my
social security number if I can't remember my password. Yeah, right!! That
turnip truck didn't drop me off at the side of the road yesterday.

Anyone else getting this email?

I get them purporting to be from Citibank, Smith & Barney, you name it.
It's the new "African money transfer" scam.

Not from banks, but I keep getting a similar one from e-bay, looks very
official, with their logo, saying someone is trying to use my account (I
don't have an e-bay account) and need to verify my information. My son says
they are doing it from banks, too, but I haven't seen one from a bank. I
deal with a local bank, so probably not as likely.

Of course I would never give any personal information to someone who asked
for it like that. If I had an e-bay account, I would contact them directly
if I thought it were real, but none of those companies send e-mail like
that.

Because of the e-bay scam I heard that e-bay has made it a policy to NEVER
contact by e-mail. If there are messages for you, you can log in to e-bay
and then get messages.

I get them from banks, and I also bank locally with a credit union. They
just send them to everyone, hoping someone will bite.

I got it today and forwarded it to my ISP.
With all the crap I've seen on sci.med (SPAM) lately, I'm not surprised the
culling of addresses is back in full force.

I have gotten it numerous times and reported it to spoof and spam. I also
don't have an account. Anyway, AOL has this as their latest spoof somewhere
in there because I was reading it just yesterday I think.

I am quite fortunate. I haven't gotten but maybe one or two junk mails
since I quit using AOL.

I get the EBAY one all the time still and after trying to report it to
Ebay to no avail I just ignore it. Ebay only sent me an automated note
on how to tell if it's really Ebay or not which was very vague and not
helpful at all. Ebay doesn't seem to like being contacted about
anything and just seems like a big cyberspace entity with no real
people working for them. I tried to report a deadbeat seller last
month without any success as well. After harrassing the seller
everyday he finally refunded my money, so that turned out okay.

Anyway, the spam always says a new email address is being added and I
need to verify by signing in, etc.

I have always received replies (not just automated ones) from ebay when I
report the spam to them. Are you sure you're sending it to spoof@ebay.com?
First you will get an automated response saying they received your email and
then usually within 24 hours you get another one from them telling you
whether or not it was spam or really from them.

It's been months since I contacted them about the spam and I can't
remember what the address was I used. I just ignore it now. And no,
there was no response after the automated message.

Do you know where to go to get a response to report a bad seller? I
would love that information! This guy was a trip! It was an import CD
my daughter was trying to buy and I guilt tripped him ruthlessly,
calling him a thief of child's money before he finally sent a refund 1
1/2 months later.

That is odd. You might want to check your spam controls because every time
I get the Ebay one, I forward it to spoof@ebay.com and I, of course, get
the canned message immediately telling me how to tell if it is legit, etc
and then I get an email telling me that it was certainly not from Ebay and
what to do if I have given out any information. I have never, and
sometimes I get up to 16 per day at my ebay address, had one not be
answered by both methods.

I have had great success with reporting crooked sellers and buyers who did
not pay for their items. Are you checking the ebay help options at all??
There are multiple ways to deal with bad situations and Ebay has always
been incredibly helpful with finding a resolution or punishing the
offender.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
Maybe it's my bad luck shining through as I am certainly not making
this up. I'll check the help options again. I used Paypal's tools to
go after the seller. Paypal made it a heck of a lot easier for me.

I'm outy though since I've had a long hard day typing horrid surgeries
for the hospital by docs that are from God knows where and didn't
really know what they wanted to say after all - so much so that one
surgery was re-dictated again by the same doc that still stumbled over
every other word. I need a drink... lol!

I had only one bad experience with an e-bay seller, with an item for which I
was the only bidder, although I offered a price that matched the reserve.
The seller refused to respond to multiple payment inquiries for a week after
the close of the auction, and when she finally did reply, refused to sell at
all on the grounds that she didn't actually own the item she had listed and
now couldn't get her "aunt" to sell it. The seller in question owned an
e-bay store in which many similar items were for sale. E-bay imposed no
penalty on her. I, of course, got negative feedback for giving the seller
negative feedback, LOL.

I don't think e-bay gives a shit what goes on with their sellers as long as
they have plenty of them. It's very much a caveat emptor site, and you have
to go in to any transaction there knowing that. If you aren't prepared to
deal with any problem on your own, don't bid, because you cannot depend on
e-bay to enforce any rules. The whole feedback system is a farce, since any
large dealer can afford a certain percentage of negative feedback, and will
simply retaliate by giving negative feedback to any dissatisfied buyer, who
probably can't afford the percentage of negative feedback that will put on
their record. Not to mention, the buyer has to leave feedback first or
there will be no feedback from the seller. So once you leave a negative
comment about a seller in an attempt to warn off future customers, the
seller will respond with some plausible sounding statement such as the buyer
never contacted them, or they offered a refund that was refused, or you name
it. Then they post a highly negative comment to the buyer's profile. So, in
general, buyers never give negative feedback no matter how unsatisfactory
the transaction, which makes the whole rating system worthless for
evaluating a seller. You may get lucky when you report a fraudulent seller,
but you shouldn't be counting on it, any more than you should believe an
e-bay sellers rating without independent verification of their business/BBB
rating/credit rating/etc.

I haven't had to mess with feedback in over a year but there was the option
at that time to go in and leave follow-up feedback. I had used that a few
times.

I had a totally different experience in dealing with Ebay and difficulties
when both a buyer and a seller. I hate to hear that your experiences were
bad. That certainly isn't "the norm" with my experiences.

No....usually the seller leaves feedback first. Once he has payment,
he has all the information he needs to leave pertinent feedback. The
buyer, however, won't want to leave feedback until he has the
merchandise in hand. In all my Ebay purchases I don't recall the
seller ever waiting for me to post feedback first.

I honestly don't think there is a "usually" in this case. Every buyer
and/or seller is different in the way they do their feedback. When I was a
seller, I left it as soon as payment was received. However, I have
encountered sellers who refused to leave feedback for me until I left it
for them. I have also received emails from numerous sellers stating that
they will leave feedback once feedback is left for them.
