If anyone happens to be an expert in WP5.1 and _also_ an expert in
InstantText, you would be the beta-tester Jean is looking for. I don't know
how many people are working in both DOS and Windows these days, but I
suppose it's possible someone is using Word/WP with InstantText for some of
their work but still using WP5.1 with an older DOS expander for the rest of
it. Beta-testing IT for DOS would be a chance to consolidate everything in
one expander while hanging on to WP5.1 for the accounts you can still use it
for.

I don't know the particulars, but I believe Transolutions uses a
DOS-based interface. There might be a good source right there.

| Another DOS-based interface would be a whole separate question. Right now
he is specifically looking for expert users of WP5.1 who are also expert
users of IT.

| I have to chuckle at this. Years and years ago, Jean was quite
condescending to those of us still stupid enough to be using Wp51 DOS.
NOW he comes up with IT for it? LOL. There's karma for ya!
I wouldn't mind seeing how it works, but a) not an IT expert and b) it
would have to be a) free and b) pretty impressive for me to switch from
ST.

| It will not be free. It will cost the same as any other copy of IT, and I'm
sure he doesn't expect it to be of much interest to people still working
completely in WP5.1 on DOS. Apparently some of the work they did to get IT
working on some of the company platforms out there has now rendered it
comparatively trivial to do a version for WP5.1. Since he's had some
requests, he's willing to give it a shot, now that a lot of the development
time that would be required has been paid for in another way. Those working
part of the time in Word/WP for Windows and part of the time in WP5.1 would
undoubtedly be happy to enter everything once in one expander, and I think
those are the people he has in mind. (It's also possible that the way
things are going in Windows it may get to the point that just getting WP5.1
alone to install and run windowed will be the best finagle that can be
managed, and it will be necessary to have an expander that runs under
Windows that can be used with it. I think XP has already been hit or miss
for people trying to install WP5.1 plus a spellcheck plus an expander.)
At this point he is only looking for maybe 5 beta testers, and he is quite
clear that he wants people who are expert in both programs, as well as of a
somewhat technical bent. Being a beta tester would be a good opportunity for
someone who happened to meet the qualifications and did have a use for IT
working in DOS, since beta testers do usually get a free or reduced-price
copy of the final software. That's why I posted here about it. He isn't
begging the DOS-only-till-death crowd to switch to his program, Rae, he's
just offering a chance to test a dual-purpose version of it to a few
well-qualified people who can no longer work only in DOS and are currently
stuck maintaining two expanders. He's actually the one doing people a favor,
so I don't think he'd be interested in potential testers who wanted to lay
down a bunch conditions to be met before they would consider his offer.

NO kidding. It's just hilarious to me after what, 6, 7 years after he
was so incredibly nasty to the DOS/ Smartype users and those marketing
them, and just now gets around to it is pretty funny to me. Then his
marketing person was always trying to "sell" the product against TOS in
the AOL forums, and cry-babied over my head because the posts were
pulled (to no avail). I do suggest Windows users look at it now despite
my opinions on him personally, largely due to the fact that the ST guy
dropped the ball and I won't recommend the windows version based on
what I've heard of it - despite my ongoing fondness for BG. This all
predates your arrival here, I believe, so you won't recall. It was the
wrong tack.
Kinda wonder how many people would actually fit the criteria of being
truly literate in both WP51 (not many left who know the program well
enough - and I'd hope that includes macros as can be used in
conjunction with Smartype), plus IT, etc. But, hey, good for him
FINALLY.

AHA! So you finally admit that you have the hots for BG <g>. I knew it was
bound to come out sooner or later <g>.
