A lady from Maine just called me. They are renting our house in Belize. We
talked for over one hour. You'd think we were long lost friends. Anyway, her
accent had me rolling on the floor. They live near Bah Hahbah. Cracked me
up!

Bah Hahbah is so pretty (never been there actually). Maybe you should
offer to swap her time in Maine for time in Belize.

Kathy:

Gotta love the Maine accent...kind of nasal, twangy accent. All of us
New Englanders (Boston girl here) have a phobia with the letter "R".
Can't hide it when traveling...it kind of sticks out like a sore thumb.

When we went up to the All-Arabian Horse Show in Springfield once (I grew up
in Rhode Island, and lived in Massachusetts for some time) my son asked,
"Mom, why are they calling you that?" I said, "What?" He said, "Bahbra."
I explained the NE Accent to him. The show had a costume class and one
entrant came in one year with their horse laden with camp gear and a sign,
"Pack Horse" (Arabian's are shown in one division as Park Horses).

I have managed to outgrow my NE accent, though apparently not completely at
times, as occasionally someone will ask if I am from NE.

Same here, Barb, having lived my childhood in West Brookfield about 30 miles
east of Springfield, MA. Now, unlike you, I've completely lost my NE accent
after living in CA for 36 years.

By the way, I have a sister named Barbara, and we always called here Bahbra.
