A Microsoft Word 2000 vs. 2002/etc question

| I've noticed a couple limitations with Microsoft Word 2000, especially
the kind a med trans might benefit from, i.e. capitalization after
numbering/lists or exceptions to the AutoCorrect rules.
I did find the macro someone graciously wrote that capitalizes letters
after periods and colons for MSW 2000, but it sometimes depends on how
many spaces each hospital wants after a period or a colon, they're
usually different. I haven't figured out how to customize
auto-numbering to suit the different accounts I type for.
Do later versions of MS Word (>2000) allow customizing the
auto-numbering of lists and sentences ending in a number or colon? If
there is a way to do it with Word 2000, I sure haven't found it yet.
I have the book "The Medical Transcriptionist's Guide to Microsoft
Word" by Laura Bryan, and she talks about Word 2000 tripping up
list-numbering.
Will higher versions of Word allow you to easily customize exceptions
to AutoCorrects or numbered lists (i.e. no capitalization after
"p.r.n.")?
Regretfully, I am still using Windows 98, so cannot upgrade to higher
than MS Word 2000 to find out all on my own.
Lastly, any other added benefits in the later versions of MS Word
(>2000)? If there is no benefit to upgrading from MSW 2000, will it
still run on XP? Shelling out more $ for another OS I cannot do, let
alone a new computer; have to work with what I've got right now ;) I
sure would like to make the best of it.
If my question wasn't very clear, I don't blame you, I'm not sure if I
articulated it that well. Nonetheless, I appreciate anyone's input at
all, and thank you very much.

| I can only answer one of your questions and that is that 2000 will work on
XP, or it does fine for me anyway.

Thank you, that helps me. I know of no other person still using
MS Word 2000 with Win 98.
