Copying the CD to your PC and/or converting the CD audio into MP3
format.

MP3 audio quality is a shade below CD quality. If you are an
audiophile, you will notice the difference. But for most people, MP3
quality is good enough.

Thank you! I am not an audiopile, but if CD has better sound, I will go
with that.

I think the only issue is really how much music do you want to have in
an easily transportable format. CDs take up a lot of room, but you could
load the full contents of hundreds of them onto some of these MP3 players.

Good idea. And maybe I wouldn't leave the MP3 player in the car the next
time I trade like I did my CDs.

Oops, I promised no more automobiles!!!

I am an audiophile, and I think mp3's sound just fine, as long as the bit
rate of the file is at least 128.

In a car, there is so much extraneous noise, it really makes no difference
whether you're listening to a CD or an mp3.
