| Here's one for the XP experts in the group. A friend of mine has a new
HP laptop with WinXP Home. Runs fine, but has a quirk in that letting
the cursor rest atop any link or icon will result in the computer
opening that page after a few seconds. I've gone through all of the
obvious places to look and can't find anything in settings to change
it. It's sort of like the old "active desktop" one-click-to-open thing
with ADHD... It's really distracting to let the cursor rest on
something and discover that the computer has opened it without being
asked to.

Try checking the touchpad sensitivity in the control panel. Some
laptops have a this issue - you don't realize you're doing it, but
just the small tremors or accidental taps can cause this to occur.

Aren't there some settings for the mouse that he can look at and maybe
change?

Thank you! That seems to have cured the problem.
