Author Program won't come off task bar

ANy ideas? THis is a program I'd used earlier in day, and worked fine.
Then, all of the sudden, it's on task bar but you can't restore,
maximize or anything to get it up. Rebooted- no help. Uninstalled and
reinstalled - no help. Other programs are apparently running normally.

Any ideas?

It's called AEP - encryption program

Go to Run, Type in msconfig and hit enter. Then look and see if it's under
the startup tab...that's for XP, but if you're in 98 it's still the very
last tab on the right. Anyway, see if it has a box and if it's checked. If
it does and is, uncheck the box, reboot, and see if it's still there.

For what it's worth, which is probably ZERO in this case, I use the
tool bar on AOL to get to this board, used to use it to go to my AOL
boards before they messed it up. Yesterday they all quit working. When
I'd click on one it would disappear.

Today I tried to post the "real way" on SMT (using the "quote" feature)
and it froze up my computer so I had to get out of AOL and come back.
Now they're all still there.

If you are running an NT-based version of Windows, it's possible that
it is running as a service. In that case, go to Control Panel |
Administrative Tools | Services. Find the service and change its
setting to Disabled. Reboot and see if it's gone.

Rae,

XP is NT-based. If someone is running Windows and it's not Windows 3.x
or 9.x, they are running an NT-based version of Windows.

That was a good idea. I think it works with XP, too. Just be logged in as
admin. Try it!

Rae, in order to see Administrative tools as its own category, you have to
use the little link on the left hand side that says switch to classic view
first. Otherwise it's a subgroup of another of those main choices under
category view and I don't remember which one it is....going to check, okay,
it's under performance and maintenance.

Dani,

Thanks for that info. I run XP Pro and things are different by default.

I happened upon it by accident - but that program wasn't running under
services. Thanks!
