Daughter #1 uses DSL for online and cell phone. She hates paying for a
land line that she doesn't use. She asked me if she needs to keep the land
line in order to continue with DSL. I have no idea but know that someone
here will have the answer. Right??

You have to have phone service to have DSL, but you can go to the most basic
service...although discounts are often offered for packages.

Thanks, Dani. She has basic, but it's about $25 a month - a ridiculous
amount to throw away every month!

Cable for internet access is an alternative. I saw a Roadrunner cable
internet offer for $29.95 per month. Don't know if they are still
offering it. I also don't know if they require you to buy a bundled
package which includes cable TV. Might be worth checking.

I have the sneaking suspicion (as I have Road Runner) that that price is
an introductory offer only.

It is, and if Time Warner calls me one more time, trying to get me to
bundle my cable and internet access together, I'm going to wrap that
d****d cable around someone's throat!!!

Yes, I believe she does, but she may want to check with her carrier. SBC
requires it.

Unfortunately, this is Comcast territory and if you want cable it has to be
with them. Internet access alone runs in the neighborhood of $45 a month!

It depends upon the vendor. What your daughter wants is known as
'naked' DSL.
