Great combination: Chocolate and Nuts

| I just finished watching through Netflix a movie that was good on so many
levels. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were made for each other, and I'm a fan
of both of them, even more so after seeing "Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory".
It also answered a question that has been inspiring many monographs in scifi
fanfic magazines since 1968, to whit, what were those obelisks in "2001: A
Space Odyssey"? It has been conjectured that they were giant chocolate bars
ala Hershey, and this movie proved that to my complete satisfaction.
However, I've had nightmares about elevators all my life, and this movie is
sure to inspire another one tonight. Four paws awarded for this movie with
the one not given because of the elevator. Oh well!

2001 has always been one of my favorite movies. My understanding of the
monolith is that it represented God. In the beginning of the movie, when
one of the apes touches it, it was akin to man eating the forbidden fruit in
the garden of eden. Touching the monolith introduced the knowledge of both
good and evil.
My take anyways.

| ed, your take is one of many I've read over the years. Personally, I like
the chocolate bar one the best, since I've always believed God has a sense
of humor.

| Fun movie, wasn't it? And, now we know: the monoliths were chocolate!
(Speaking of which, s'pose my BF would notice if I swiped the Hershey
bar from his dresser drawer? Sigh...I guess there was probably a reason
he "hid" it from me...)

| Ooohh, I loved it - right down to the very very different Oompah Loompahs.

It's funny you all should mention 2001 today. This evening my husband
is showing this movie to a group of students at the university where he
teaches and will lead a discussion about the science in the movie and
things that were happening in our country the year the movie came out.
I won't be able to be there because I'm working, but I look forward to
hearing about it later tonight.
