OT: Amusing Spam Headers

| "I shut my hoyden pistil" (selling HGH)
"No watch in disappointment bean" (selling HGH)
"It run on plutonium weasel" (selling Viagra, etc.)
And they all have a paragraph of nonsense at the bottom of the email.
What's up with that???

| They've started to use nonsense to get past spam filters that are
looking for words like "penis," "sex," "mortgage,"
"prescriptions/drugs," "Viagra," etc. For the same reason, they've also
been including long passages of text--either gibberish or excerpts from
strange essays or romance novels.

| When they do the nonsense, I just don't open it. In fact I rarely open
anything unless I recognize the address, and I only open attachments from
very few people whom I know are computer savvy with good protection.

The long passages of text and/or gibberish are attempts to get around a
special breed of spam filters that work by analyzing the entire text of
the message rather than just look for keywords. I've forgotten the name
for this class of spam filter, but it begins with "Bay".
You actually teach it to identify spam. For example, if you flag
several emails as spam that consist mostly of the phrase, "We have the
lowest prices on <typical spam things such as viagra>", it will then
begin to flag all emails that consist mostly of that phrase as spam. So
it doesn't matter how the spammers misspell the name of the ED drug,
they will still get filtered out. By inserting a lot of other text, the
email no longer consists mostly of the special phrase, and the email
may get through the filter.
