Hi! Since I got my shortcut program, I have found problems with it that I
don't see when I am using it on my hospital computer. For instance, when I
type PE for Physical Exam, on my hosp computer, if I type it is caps, it
will give it to me in caps. Not so on my personal computer. Also,
sometimes it is a little slow and I'll get, for example, when I type pe for
physical exam, it will give me pphysical exam. It will hesistate for a sec
with first p and then spite out the expansion. Do I need to change settings
or something? Thanks for any help you can give me.

MIght need to be more specific about which programs you are using? Or "real"
programs versus the quick correct type stuff in Word

Oh, sorry. It's ShortCut for Windows by Healthcare Technologies, Inc. I
also use Dorland's Electronic Medical Speller V4 as part of spell check
routine. Could there be a clash?

Donna, that program can really be aggravating. Mine does the same thing yours
does.

If you want it to come out all caps, you have to enter it in caps. For mine I
would put PEX for PHYSICAL EXAM or PE for physical exam - for example.

Be sure that you open SC *first* before anything else. It likes that.

I sometimes have to toggle on and toggle off (under "tools" at the top).

All in all, I don't really have problems with it, but mine is an ancient
version. I have a friend with the new version and the folks who sold it to her
are being butts about the whole thing, want to charge her $90 per hour to
investigate her problems.

I still like it, and prefer it to anything else I've used (short of Flash, of
course), so I've just sort of learned to deal with the problems.

Becky, that's a good idea, but it really bugs me that it works on my work
computer and not my home computer. Before I bought it I posted here, but I
wanted it anyway, because I've used it on my hospital computer since 1999.
The company is awful. They came and put a virus, surely not on purpose, but
on all the hospital computers. When I bought it, they said I had a 30 days
free for questions but that time has passed. I have had a lot of computer
problems since then, so I am just now, in the past couple of weeks getting
to use it regularly, so that time is up. I will check the toggle and see if
that helps.

Donna/Tex (wish I could think of a new name to distinguish myself, but my
mind is fried).

I can't even remember how how the "old' Flash Forward worked. I think it would
initial cap if you did but otherwise needed two abbreviations. I have to do
that with Smartype. I could make asa=aspirin be Asa=aspirin I believe, but if I
want pmh to be past medical history I'd have to have pmhx (or pmhsomething) be
PAST MEDICAL HISTORY

Guess I'll do that. Gonna be hard getting used to since I'm spoiled with it
working the other way. LOL! Maybe the corporate edition is different from
the single license addition.

Any other ideas, would love to hear them on making this program work. Still
don't understand why it hesitates also. My home computer is faster and more
up-to-date than the hospital computer.

Checked, the hospital computer has Stedman's for their dictionary. Someone
had told me there was a comflict with ShortCuts with Stedman's, if you don't
start ShortCuts before you start Word, so just to be on the safe side, I've
been doing that, even though I'm not using Stedman's; I'm using Dorlands.
Apparently, I guess the hospital has it set up to start SC before Word when
I log in.

Well now that's bugging me too!

I really don't have many problems as long as I open that program first.

>because I've used it on my hospital computer since 1999.

Boy I'd like to have enough sense to pick your brain, but that's a laugh and a
half. There's so much I don't know about this program.

Becky, I hope that wasn't an insult about the laugh and a half part. I
don't think it was. Actually, I asked a lot of questions and took a lot of
notes when they installed it and trained us in 1999. Do you know how to
link files from a directory, so, like a standard op note, so you can paste
it into a report? Hardly anybody I work with does... tried to teach them,
but they think it's too complicated. It's NOT. Hey, if "I" can do it,
anyone can. You can also set up subscripts, like for pco2 (with the 2
subscript). Then again what works on that computer may not work with my
home PC. Hmmm. Haven't tried yet.

Ooh no, you must have me mistaken with the person who got a bellyful of another
poster on the adult riders board and finally told her to shut up. That was a
self-deprecating remark, saying that I don't hve the sense to think up the
questions!

Becky, no I was just sorta kidding, after just saying that my brain was
fried. LOL!

I will send you the instructions. Guess I should try it on my home PC
before that, so I'll know if it works or not. Works wonderfully on my work
PC. I had to reformat my hard drive today and put everything back on (Hubby
had made partitians and it was driving me batty), and I have two tapes to
do, but I'm just too tired. Think I'll go to bed, which is way unusual for
me this time of night. (Work 3-11 p.m.)

Have a good night/morning or whatever it is this time of day. LOL!

Becky, me again. I hadn't shut down my work computer, so I wrote it down.

You go to your directories, where you store them. For instance, I store
mine in c:\donna\trans

Make the normal, for like, and egd by Dr. Jones and name it, example
egdjones.doc

In Shortcuts, make an entry
{ALTI}LC:\Donna\Trans\egdjones.doc{ENTER}

When you type the shortcut egdjones it'll give you the file egdjones.doc in
the body of your report in the font and margins, etc., you've set up in that
file.

Ok, I'm really hitting the hay now.
