The dreaded colonoscopy

| Yep, it's my turn. Tomorrow is liquid-diet/Fleets day, and Wednesday
morning I get to be scoped. (Strictly routine, that over-50 thing we
are all supposed to do.) Any kind words of advice or sick jokes to
offer? I think tomorrow I'll be very glad I work at home.

Gatorade. High in carbs. What do they do if someone is a non-insulin
dependent diabetic?

That's me. Told me to drink it anyway. Was not good.

I couldn't do it in 1 hour. Took a couple.

It can't be any worse than the stuff they gave me last year before my MRI or
CAT scan, I forget which. It tasted like bananas, ripe bananas at that, and I
had to gag down two large glasses of it. It even smelled like bananas, and I
do not like that smell or taste at all. Disgusting!

Been meaning to ask, how did the procedure go? If you said I missed it?

| Rae,
Thanks for asking. The procedure itself was a piece of cake. Of
course, I was virtually completely out at the time. Versed is such a
wonderful thing. The prep, OTOH, was pretty awful. Actually, it
wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to drink that crappy Fleets. (It
was either 4 ounces of water with the Fleets or 10 ounces of mag
citrate; I chose the smaller volume.) A word to the wise: Mix it
with water. Don't mix it with juice. I drank the morning dose with
water; it was awful but I got it all down. In the afternoon I decided
to mix it with cranberry juice, which I'd been dri15 Nov 2004 17:00:15

| Well, Sunny decided that I was ready to send that post before I
finished it.
As I was saying, I mixed the afternoon dose with cranberry juice, and
it was so awful that I could only drink about 3/4 of it before tossing
the rest down the sink. Absolutely horrible. If you could do the
whole prep in pill form, it wouldn't be all that bad.
The "insult to injury" part of it was that when I read the report
(which was given to me, complete with color photos of my colon, before
I left the facility), it was that the prep was "fair." Fair my XXX!
(pardon the pun)
Let's just say that on that day, I was glad I work at home. <gg>

| That's why I did clear liquids for three days. Said prep was excellent.
I'll never do the GoLYTELY or whatever they use. I will always do the clear
liquids.

| I could barely make it through *one* day of clear liquids. If I never
see orange jello again, it'll be too soon. (You can't even eat red
jello on that prep!) But I did learn that Swanson's low-fat chicken
broth heated right out of the box is pretty darn tasty. Not sure I
could do it for three days, though.
