| I did it! I got an e-mail from a family member warning me of some dire event
taking place if you opened a certain e-mail. Had the "warning"--and "I checked
Snopes about this one and it is for real". Well, guess what? It isn't. It is
a hoax per Symantec. So I hit "reply all" and posted the link to the Symantec
page regarding that e-mail hoax.
I feel so much better now.

| Good for you, Carol! Maybe this will be the last one you receive from
this person.

This was from a different person. She wrote me back and thanked for the link.
Said she should have checked it out before sending it on to others. I don't
worry about sending anything like this to her. She's cool about it, and has
sent me links to correct information before as well.

The person at my church who sent me the prayer request for the woman with
cancer whose husband is in Iraq wasn't so cool. I was a little bit miffed.
Then I went back and read her e-mail, which said this person was actually a
friend of her grandmother's cousins. LOL.
Snopes had the exact post, word for word. Somebody lied somewhere. I wonder if
I'll be dechurched before the day is out?

Becky,
I firmly believe that telling the person at our church that the needle on the
gas pump thing was a hoax was a direct cause of the treatment we later received
at church by this person. Ultimately this led to us leaving the church due to
the treatment we received. Those particular people never treated us the same
way after I corrected their misinformation. I now know how some of you feel
about church and religion--and why.

Yes, unfortunately those things happen. Church and religious people are people
too and sometimes they let their "Regular people" feelings get in the way. I
have noticed, though, that it doesn't matter what church you go to, there is
always going to be someone like that.

Wow, Carol! That would hurt my feelings something terrible. Did this happen
recently? Well I guess it had to, didn't it!?

Jeannie,
You're absolutely correct, unfortunately. The last 22 months has certainly
made us a bit gun-shy about church. <G>

Becky,
Yeah, pretty much in the last 22 months. And it hurt very badly. Between that
and some of the other things that have happened with relationships over the
last year or so, it's been tough.

I have to say that I think if there are epidemics of hoaxes being filtered
through congregations, a responsible pastor would address it from the pulpit -
you know - like the old story that went around about Proctor and Gamble's
trademark (or something like that) being symbol of the devil?
