Author Question re Implants

My dentist inserted two implants in my lower jaw. After installing the posts
into the implants (5 months later) it was found that one of the posts was
fine. It was long enough to go well into the crown that connects the two
implants.

However, the post on the second implant was rather short and resulted in the
post just jutting 1 mm into the crown, giving little support.

The crown did not fit well along the gum line. My dentist yanked off the
crown for modifications but he is reluctant to do anything about this short
post. Would it be really be so difficult to unscrew the post from the
implant and replace it with a longer one? How far should a post normally be
imbedded into the crown?

Thank you for any input.
