Author See through teeth after bleaching?

Am I the only one who has teeth you can see through after bleaching? I
noticed the problem after day 1 when using Nite White Excel3 16%. It's
mainly the top front teeth. They are basically marbled with a combination of
transulcent and white. If I stick my toungue to the back of them, I can see
a color change.

I would guess that the back of your front teeth are worn down. We see
that a lot with GERD

If your teeth look more like the ones on the left than those on the right, then
you are normal.

Natural teeth have translucent portions. If the translucent areas are located
differently from the ones on the left, chances are that you may have had a
developmental anomaly.

Here is a link to a PDF document that shows denture teeth that might emulate
what you are describing; http://www.schottlander.co.uk/PDFDocuments/EnigmaDL.pdf

Mine are spotty. If mine looked like the ones on the left I wouldn't be
complaining. Whitening my teeth was a HUGE MISTAKE, one of the biggest I've
ever made. My teeth weren't clear like this at all before I bleached them. I
guess I'm just screwed for life now.

The effects of bleaching are not permanent and don't last forever. That is why
they say you have to repeat every 6 months or so to maintain the effect. Your
teeth will most likely return to "normal" by years end.

Thanks for the response Roy. I sure hope you're right. I'm pretty devastated
right now (to say the least). My new years resolution was to get my teeth
whitened to have a nice bright smile. I thought to myself, it will be great
to be able to smile and not have to feel self concisious about the
yellowness of my teeth. Now, they look much worse. When you say that they
will return to normal, do you mean that stains will occur on top making them
look more normal, or, is there some kind of healing process that can occur
in the tooth itself? Have you ever seen someone that had teeth that looked
kind of marbled of clear and white. On my teeth there are what look like
white dots, some interconnecting, rather than just one consistent white
surface and there are clear marks in between the white dots. I'm wondering
what is the white part of the teeth? Is that enamel or dentin? I'm wondering
how far down the dentin goes? Is it only a little past the gums, or, does it
go all the way down to the tip of the tooth. What I'm wondering is if the
problem is with the dentin or with the enamel?

I contracted Hepatitus C, I think probably in the early 80's through a blood
transfusion. I didn't find out about it until years later and went through
treatment with PegInteron and Rebetol for 6 months in 2002. It cleared the
virus, but, I'm wondering if the treatment might have caused problems with
my teeth. Or, maybe it was the Hepatitus itself when I was a kid and my
teeth were forming. I've only had one cavity in probably the past 15 years.
I'm 34 years old now.

The thing that I find most disturbing about my teeth is that the clearness
is patchy and the clear spots to up towards the center of my front teeth,
not just at the bottom.

Another thing that I've been wondering is that I use Listerine a lot. I use
it twice a day. And I usually use it for more than 30 seconds. It might be
up to a couple minutes. I'm wondering if that might have caused the problem.

Here is a link to a photomicrograph of a tooth:
http://tinyurl.com/4l3w9

From that you should get some idea of why teeth are not of a uniform colour.
Basically the bleach is lightening the dark lines which is staining within the
microscopic spaces between the tooth's structure. No bleach = stains return =
tooth returns to normal colour. Much like if you stop using bleach with your
white shirts when laundering, they will start to yellow.

You a mouth breather?

Thanks. Is it the enamel or the dentin that gets bleached? That picture
doesn't show how far up the dentin goes. Is it the case that the dentin goes
all the way to the end of the tooth and just has a thin layer of enamel over
it? Or, is it more enamel with dentin only going a little beyond the gums?
What I'm wondering is, is it the case that I have no dentin and hence can
see through my tooth?

I think I might sometimes while I'm sleeping, but, in general, I breath
through my nose.

Neither, it is the crappola that is in the spaces within the matrix of enamel
and dentin. Did a quick search for images, most of the human ones are of back
teeth. Here is one for an animals front tooth which is similar to humans:

You can have your Dentist even the color out for your teeth if it is very

otherwise your overbleached teeth will get more and more sensitive and ware

lol! I don't think you'd dance to this at a wedding (although it would
be hilarious to see) ... :D

You put your right hand in,
You put your right hand out,
You put your right hand in,
And you shake it all about,

You do the hokey pokey
and you turn yourself around
That what it's all about.

2) left hand
3) right foot
4) left foot
5) head
6) butt
7) whole self

Are you talking about Enamelon?

Out of curiosity, if someone were to lose enamel, couldn't a dentist
just fill it (with a tooth coloured filling)?

They were probably developed by someone with a sick sense of humour that got
their jollies watching drunks make fools of themselves. The masochistic tendency
of society promigulated the effect.

Think that you are sharp enough to figure this one out on your own.
If not, ask again.

Are you referring to the horizontal dance after the reception? Other than that
I'm at a loss. A one legged monkey has two arms that are still used for
locomotion, where a one legged man needs crutches.

Found a 3rd choice via Google. I'd be doing a funny dance after doing this type
of one legged monkey, wouldn't you?

(No cringing allowed)
Then again, I understand you are somewhat of an "Endo-Man" yourself ;-)

Yep the horizontal mamba.

Busier than a one legged man in an a$$ kicking contest.

Well, I'm happy to announce that after stopping bleaching, my teeth have
pretty much returned to normal. I think they're a bit more translucent than
they were, but, they don't look too bad to me. It took a about a week or so
after I stopped bleaching for everything to even out. I went to another
dentist to get a second opinion back when they still looked spotty. The
second dentist recommended that I continue bleaching for another two weeks
and see if they evened out. So, both dentists recommended that I continue. I
gave up after a few days more because I wasn't sure that I trusted either of
them. Neither of them said that there was anything wrong with the enamel on
my teeth. I'm just very thankful that things have evened out. That would
have been terrible if they stayed the way they were. Basically, the way it
worked for me was that while I was bleaching the teeth were evenly white,
but, if I stopped they got spotty. Then, after waiting a week or so, they
got less white, less spotty, and less translucent and then evened out.

I thought it might be that dance you only see at weddings, like the chicken
dance.

lol! I don't think you'd dance to this at a wedding (although it would
be hilarious to see) ... :D

You put your right hand in,
You put your right hand out,
You put your right hand in,
And you shake it all about,

You do the hokey pokey
and you turn yourself around
That what it's all about.

2) left hand
3) right foot
4) left foot
5) head
6) butt
7) whole self

Are you talking about Enamelon? I read it only works if minor damage
has occurred.

Are you talking about Enamelon?

Out of curiosity, if someone were to lose enamel, couldn't a dentist
just fill it (with a tooth coloured filling)?
