I don't like Wallmart. I don't like their unfair labor practices, I
don't like their predatory pricing. They haven't done any real damage
in the NY area yet, and the New York market will be tougher to damage.
But the reason to single out Wallmart is their size and clout. There is
a form of corporate censorship to make it onto their shelves. While it
may be a talking point for Jon Stewart to say that his book is not
carried by Wallmart, it has had a chilling effect on publishing and
music industries who must alter content and packaging to get on their
shelves. Furthermore, their labor practices have helped to lower the
bar for employer standards, as other retailers follow suit in order to
compete.
