Actually no. As I pointed out, the basis for believing that cannabis
smoke is harmful is *not* that there is an otherwise unexplained
correlation between cannabis smoking and lung damage. If that were the
starting point we would all be swayed by anecdotal evidence until
finally the thing seemed to be proved one way or the other. Instead we
have a huge amount of very well-established science that has largely
unraveled the effects of inhaling carcinogens. There is no reason to
think this model is seriously flawed. Hence it must apply to cannabis.
If a report shows that the expected harmful effects are not there then
there are several possible explanations ranging from mysterious
healing properties in this particular smoke through to simple
incompetence in the study. The consequence is that if the author
stands by his findings and methods then he *is* putting his reputation
on the line. Either a brave man or a fool, we shall see.
